The DAYS recap for Thursday, November 10, 2022, gives credence to the old adage “no good deed goes unpunished.” Makes you wonder why people even try.
In this episode, amateur party planner Bonnie Lockhart Kiriakis (Judi Evans) stumbled upon a party pooper, Rafe Hernandez (Galen Gering) took Nicole Walker Hernandez (Arianne Zucker) to task for posing with a former partner, and EJ DiMera (Dan Feuerriegel) decided to fight fire with fire. Now, let’s dig a little deeper into what exactly happened.
Bonnie had news for Maggie Horton Kiriakis (Suzanne Rogers) — governor-elect Paulina Price Carver’s (Jackée Harry) daughter was just arrested for murder; no, not that daughter, the other one, the youngest — and vice versa: did Bonnie know that today marked 11 years since Maggie and Victor first tied the knot? No, no, Bonnie did not.
Despite her less than warm and fuzzy feelings about Victor Kiriakis (John Aniston), Bonnie insisted that the special occasion should not go unmarked and appointed herself point person. Her first duty: guilt Sarah Horton Cook (Linsey Godfrey) — who’ll, in turn, guilt Xander Cook (Paul Telfer) — into attending the bash. Her second: arrange the dinner; salmon and fixings. Her third: track down a pair of antique steel lanterns that would make the perfect centerpieces.
Unfortunately for Xander, said decorative items are in the same garden shed in which he’s deposited Susan Banks (Stacy Haiduk). To say that Bonnie is surprised to find the trussed-up southern fried grandma would be an understatement.
With nothing to lose, a distraught EJ confided in Tony DiMera (Thaao Penghlis) his plight: mean, mean, mean Ava has absconded with his mommy. Proving that he’s the most sensible of the bunch, Tony floated the idea of phoning up Rafe and cluing him in — after all, if there’s anybody outside of Steve Johnson (Stephen Nichols) who knows how Ava operates, it’s Rafe.

EJ gave the opinion due consideration and decided that his brother may be on to something, but before he could place the call, Ava — still in the thrall of her psychotic son’s specter — got in touch with her demands: $20 million for Susan’s safe return. EJ agreed to meet the outrageous demand, then set about arranging a nasty surprise of his own for Ava. To say that Tony is put out to learn that EJ won’t be playing ball would be an understatement. Instead, he sent Ava a picture of his payback — Tripp Johnson bound and gagged!
Before being conscripted into playing referee between Victor and Xander for her mother’s sake, Sarah bigged up the pharmaceutical sales job that Xander supposedly snagged to Eric Brady (Greg Vaughan) — he was suitably impressed, even if he is still holding onto some resentment stemming from Xander allowing him and Sarah to raise Rachel Black (Finley Rose Slater) for an entire year before revealing her true parentage. Still, people do change, and forgiveness is good for the soul.
It’s not so much that he’s mad at Nicole for modeling alongside Eric — though he’s none too pleased by the thought — it’s more that Rafe is seriously put out that Nicole didn’t just tell him about the shoot. Why did he have to hear it from Jada Hunter (Elia Cantu), of all people, rather than his own wife? Also, why won’t Nicole just come right out and admit that she’s still got the hots for her ex? Wouldn’t that be easier? Wouldn’t that spare them a whole lot of hurt in the end?
No, no, Nicole doesn’t think that. She’s still living in a fantasy world where everything can be made right between her and Rafe, and her attraction to Eric will dissipate before she knows it. To say that Rafe is frustrated beyond belief by the whole thing would be an understatement. Eric felt bad when he saw how angry Rafe was, but Nicole gave her ex a dose of reality — Rafe sees what they’re ignoring — there is still something between them. That hot kiss proved Rafe right.
