The DAYS recap for Thursday, December 15, 2022, sees a reunion between could have been, should have been, and probably would have been had the circumstances been different lovers.
In this episode, Ava Vitali (Tamara Braun) is caught skulking around Susan Banks’s (Stacy Haiduk) memorial by Johnny DiMera (Carson Boatman), which is terribly inconvenient for her and a big surprise for him. Elsewhere, Brady Black (Eric Martsolf) takes a calculated risk, Nicole Walker Soon-To-No-Longer-Be-Hernandez (Arianne Zucker) takes Eric Brady (Greg Vaughan) to task, and John Black (Drake Hogestyn) agrees to take one for the team. Now, let’s dig a little deeper into what exactly happened.
Not only has Ava tickled herself with her plan to blow EJ DiMera (Dan Feuerriegel) to Kingdom Come while he’s mourning his poor dead mother, but she’s further delighted by the thought of taking Nicole out at the same time, given that her former love rival will most likely be in attendance alongside her new housemate. Ava’s thinking of it as your classic two birds one bomb situation.

After planting the weapon of mass destruction, Ava comes thisclose to being caught out by Johnny, but divine intervention in the form of a wailing Sister Mary Moria (Stacy Haiduk) — more on her and her predicament later — allows her to beat a hasty retreat. If only she’d stayed away.
However, like just about every criminal, Ava just had to return to the scene of the crime — or crime in progress — and like just about every criminal, she was spotted. Johnny was equal parts horrified and bemused.
After being teased and ticked off by a faux mistletoe-wielding Kristen DiMera (Stacy Haiduk), the last thing that Brady was in the mood for was to find his ex playing dress up — and as a nun, no less!
Much to Brady’s chagrin, it wasn’t until after he’d pulled Sister Mary Moria into a passionate clinch — later described as smacking of coffee and sin! — that he realized she was the genuine article. His punishment: knuckles rapped with a ruler. SMM is old school — and cliché — that way.
Having found Eric in a state of undress in the apartment of the equally unclothed Sloan Petersen (Jessica Serfaty), Nicole couldn’t have been more disappointed if she tried. Is this really what Eric wants to do with his life? Huh? Throw it away for a meaningless fling with the likes of Sloan? Why yes, yes, it is. Also, Eric’s still mighty steamed that Nicole talked his girlfriend into getting an abortion, so there’s that.
John and Marlena Evans Black (Deidre Hall) have had it up to HERE with Kristen. It was one thing to infiltrate their home, but now she’s working to worm her way back into Brady’s good graces — not to mention his bed — and they won’t stand for that. Brady deserves better. And poor Rachel (Finley Rose Slater). Why can’t she have a mommy who isn’t cracked?
But how to best handle the snake in their midst? Perhaps John wouldn’t mind cozying up to his ex and longtime stalker and getting the lowdown? He would? Darn. But he’ll do it anyway? Awesome!
Brady’s no-good, very-bad day continued to worsen. First, Kristen — who needed cheering up after being summarily rebuked by EJ — delighted in his mistaking SMM for her in disguise and pointedly wondered what would have happened between them had it really been her in the habit. Then, Eric announced that he was tendering his resignation from Basic Black!
