Rafe and Hope Reunite on Days of Our Lives – But Should They?!

After a fight about Hope’s unwillingness to pull the trigger on a wedding date on Days of Our Lives (DOOL), a despondent Rafe did what any man in his broken-hearted position would do (on a soap, at least) — he bedded his ex-wife, Sami.

While of course this caused the usual drama you’d expect, like a guilt-ridden Rafe (Galen Gering) feeling he has to tell Hope (Kristian Alfonso) the truth and a nervous Sami (Alison Sweeney) not wanting to hurt Aunt Hope — there was an unexpected byproduct of the affair that could spell trouble for DAYS.

The issue? The chemistry between Gering and Sweeney was so much more fun, interesting, and just plain steamier than what’s there between Rafe and Hope. That makes the reunion sort of a buzz kill.

Sure, we know Sweeney isn’t staying, but it lets us know so much better is out there and we feel kind of cheated (pun intended) we don’t get it.

Now, it looks like their “secret” affair won’t stay secret for long so perhaps this reunion will be short-lived, which we can only hope.

Chances are, seeing these two cops forced to work together again after the secret is exposed could be just the spark the characters need to become interesting again.

Both Gering and Alfonso are fantastic actors, and it’s nothing against them. While Hope may have said she can love again, many fans prefer her pairing with Peter Reckell’s Bo so much they’re not willing to give any other love relationship for Hope a chance.

But that’s probably a small number and while Reckell’s return would be preferable, it doesn’t seem to be in the cards — at least for right now. Rafe has shown to be far more combustible with Sami, so it’s hard to see him settle as well.

What should DAYS do with two powerhouse characters who seem to be able to spark so much more with other partners?

Perhaps revisiting the drawing board and finding them each new love interests would be the best place to start. Or maybe blowing them up, like it seems they’re doing, was the answer they came up with — to start over.
