Abby and Gwen Days of Our Lives
On Days of our Lives, Abigail locked Gwen up in a dungeon to pry the truth out of her about Laura’s death. Gwen got out and shared the tale of her imprisonment with the world. Should Abigail be held responsible for her crimes? Almost 4,000 judges told us their verdicts:
A majority 47% of you see Abigail’s (Marci Miller) actions as completely justified. She wanted to know something. Gwen (Emily O’Brien) wasn’t telling her. So she drugged her, kidnapped her, tied her up, and tortured her.
Basically, she did what any normal, rational person would do under the circumstances. Why in the world should she be punished for that? She should be complimented for her restraint and resourcefulness!
A slightly smaller 44% of the audience takes it a step further: No one in Salem is ever punished for their crimes. (Except for Gabi. Gabi goes to prison for crimes she did commit… and crimes she didn’t.) So why should Abigail waste any sleep worrying about it?
If Abigail was punished, Kristen (Stacy Haiduk) might have to pay for all her past crimes, not just the most recent ones. The same goes for Victor (John Aniston) and Xander (Paul Telfer) and Sami (Alison Sweeney). And where would Salem be then?
Only 9% actually recognize the criminality of what Abigail did and believe she should be made to pay. If not, anyone who wants to know anything will be justified in torturing the answer out of anyone. And that sounds… vaguely wrong?
Would it have been OK if Abigail starved Gwen (like she threatened)? Beat her? Waterboarded her? Where exactly is the line drawn? I mean, obviously, it’s drawn right between characters you like and characters you don’t like. But, just in case, we need a little extra legal guidance… Days of our Lives (DOOL) airs weekdays on NBC.
