As an actor on both General Hospital and Days of Our Lives, Wally Kurth is a busy man. But despite doing double duty on two soaps, he takes time to be with his family, especially his son, Brogan.

Happy Watching Brogan Enjoy Himself

On June 19, soap opera star Wally Kurth posted a video of a beach with gray, overcast skies to Instagram. In the video, his son Brogan was sitting on a wall that juts from the beach into the ocean.

He mentioned the words many Angelenos have for the conditions in his caption, which read, “…sorry to see June gloom continue…but the gray sky can be inviting in its own, melancholy way…representing our lives today. Like Buddha, Brogan sits on ‘The Bridge’…listening, tasting, seeing, smelling, feeling…sensing it all. That’s who I wanna be when I grow up.

It might refer to a bridge in the East China town of Fujian, which is supported by a giant hand known as “Buddha’s Hand.” Or, it could be referring to the legend that Buddha himself supposedly built a golden bridge that floated in the air, upon which he walked several times over the course of a week. Whatever the reference, Kurth talked about serenity and was happy to see his son enjoying himself.

In July 2023, he posted a video on Instagram depicting Brogan playing in the ocean, and wrote, “…Brogan living his best life. My son takes me to the ocean almost every day. It’s why I call it the #giftofautism.”

His Real Life Informed GH’s Ned

While his GH character Ned and his wife Olivia (Lisa LoCicero) have come to terms with the fact that their son Leo (Easton Rocket Sweda) has autism, art has been reflecting life as Brogan also falls on the autism spectrum. In an interview with WAAY31 in April 2022, Kurth discussed the parallels between his reel life and his real life.

Talking about Brogan, he stated, “When he was young, I knew that he was different. I knew he was processing things differently.” He was happy that Ned’s storyline was something he could relate to, and he explained, “I think, as parents, we all have to accept it, you know, which is really difficult. Parents just expect a typical child, and they have a different child.”

Because of Brogan, Kurth was able to easily relate to Sweda, as he remarked, “I understand Easton’s anxiety and his behaviors on set, which, you know, I think I can kind of corral his energy, and when he wants to move around so much, I can just put my hands on his shoulders, just, ‘Hey, we’re going to stay right here.’ ” He saw a lot of his own son’s behaviors in Sweda, noting that, “I think it’s helpful that the viewers and the people understand that everyone’s on their own journey.”
