Tina Huang Talks Melinda’s Role in Baby Swap and DAYS BFF Martha Madison

One of the secrets that has yet to blow up on Days of our Lives is the role Melinda Trask, played by Tina Huang, played in the show’s current baby swap. Huang recently chatted with Soap Hub about why she feels that her alter-ego is justified in doing what she did — even though she eventually might need a lawyer herself!

Sloan (Jessica Serfaty) thought she needed to nab a baby to hang onto Eric (Greg Vaughan) and as Nicole (Arianne Zucker) was about to deliver, her newborn seemed like the perfect candidate. But the switcheroo never would have happened if Melinda hadn’t set things in motion. The show’s scribes had to give the morally challenged attorney a reason to do what she did, and Huang feels they met that challenge.

“I think they justified it really well,” Huang tells Soap Hub. Speaking in character, she says, “I had survived an abusive relationship. I wanted to make sure that the baby was safe from EJ [Dan Feuerriegel].” The actress, still in character, adds with a laugh, “I don’t go around stealing babies!” (Click here to read Soap Hub‘s take on the story and Melinda in our On the Couch feature.)

Now that truths are starting to emerge what will Melinda do if her role in this kidnapping comes to light? “She’s going to try to protect herself,” Huang says. “That’s how she’s survived.”

If the district attorney ends up needing a lawyer, she could always call the much-missed Belle, played by Huang’s bestie Martha Madison. The two actresses bonded during Madison’s time on the show, hitting it off during down time in between legal cases the TV attorneys were handling. “I realized Tina was the funniest person,” Madison says. “We’d sit in our rooms and laugh and talk. She’s so smart.”

“You are, too!” Tina Huang tells Madison, returning the compliment. Indeed. Earlier this year, The Weakest Link aired its DAYS themed episode on which both actresses appeared. The show’s winner was Madison! Click here to read about her time on the NBC game show.
