Despite laying a trap for the villain she originally thought was a friend, Maggie had no idea about the depth of Konstantin’s evil on Days of Our Lives. Suzanne Rogers discussed how his bombshell has affected her and what further damage will happen when his accomplice is revealed.
Maggie’s (Suzanne Rogers) plan to frame Konstantin (John Kapelos) for embezzlement would have succeeded when Justin (Wally Kurth) learned about it just before she was to marry the villain. However, the Greek threw a monkey wrench into the works by gleefully admitting that he had her late husband Victor’s (John Aniston) plane sabotaged, causing it to fatally crash.
This created chaos, and in the ensuing gunfight, Steve (Stephen Nichols) was shot, and the baddie held Theresa (Emily O’Brien) hostage…until Xander (Paul Telfer) shot him dead. Before dying, he warned of another traitor in their midst, and no one is aware that it is Theresa who was his accomplice.
Rogers spoke with Soap Opera Digest, in which she reiterated that no one knew what had caused Victor’s plane to go down until the wedding day. “That’s when he said that he killed Victor, that he was the one responsible for his death,” she said, adding, “She found out at the wedding that Konstantin took her husband from her.” Upon learning this dire news, Maggie passed out (fortunately, Justin caught her), and she further explained what was going through her character’s head: “Maggie lost her mind for a second, and that’s why she faints. She just couldn’t believe that Konstantin was that evil. And she still doesn’t know about Theresa’s involvement with him yet.”
She laid out the fact that his revelation was almost incomprehensible to Maggie, who had helped him out of the kindness of her heart, even going so far as to marry him so he wouldn’t get deported. “I mean, she wouldn’t have given him half of the estate or whatever, but she would’ve helped him out, you know what I’m saying? She helped him stay [in Salem]. That’s why she was getting married to him, to keep him in this country,” she explained.
Theresa was scheming with Konstantin to get some of Victor’s inheritance, even changing the name of his heir from Xander to Alex (Robert Scott Wilson). Konstantin planned on marrying Maggie and then killing her because he believed he had destroyed their prenup agreement.
Theresa was supposed to get Alex to marry her so she could take half of his money and give it to the scoundrel. She even went so far as to help pretend to kidnap Xander and Sarah’s (Linsey Godfrey) baby, but she kept quiet through the whole kerfuffle, hoping she wouldn’t be outed. Rogers stated, “Maggie has no idea. [She] kind of likes Theresa. She defended her, and she took up for her. So this is going to hurt her. [As women] I think we can take a lot from men. We almost expect that they’re going to try to pull some sh*t.”
She then explained why Theresa’s betrayal is going to cause Maggie intense pain: “We get hurt more when a friend does it, when a woman does it that we’ve taken under our wing. So to have been really taken in by Theresa is going to hurt.”
