Days of Our Lives fans have had some grim news lately. The death of Drake Hogestyn, who played fan favorite John Black, was difficult enough to deal with. Now comes the news that the original actor to play Roman, Wayne Northrop, died as a result of Alzheimer’s disease. Fellow soap stars took to social media to honor their fallen friend and colleague.
A Sad Day in Salem and Beyond
In the aftermath of Northrop’s death, quite a few DAYS fan pages and groups on social media shared their love for the original Roman. One fan summed up the collective thoughts of everyone very nicely with the post on X, formerly Twitter: “I feel I have been punched in the gut as another beloved Days actor passes. I loved Wayne as Roman Brady. RIP 😭 💔#WayneNorthrup.”
The soap stars lined up to share their love and thoughts about the beloved actor and his wife of 43 years, Lynn Herring, who plays Lucy Coe on General Hospital.

Peter Reckell (Bo) reposted a fan’s message on X, which included a great Bo/Roman clip. The actor reflected on the importance of the Bo and Roman dynamic. “Bo’s relationship with his brother was the first relationship that showed who Bo is on the show. Working with him was effortless, his sense of humor was wicked 🤣 Wayne was my brother and my heart goes out to Lynn. 🙏”
Alison Sweeney (Sami) shared a couple of pics with her and Northrop and one with Deidre Hall (Marlena) and Roman’s current portrayer, Josh Taylor. (Note: She also shared the same post on Instagram.)
James Reynolds (Abe) on Instagram shared a classic photo of Abe and Roman back in the day that seems almost as if it were straight out of a 1970s action/cop film or TV series.
DAYS star Wally Kurth (Justin) responded to Reynolds’ post with, “Dang James, another acting partner you have to say goodbye to. Wayne was one of my favorites to watch. 🙏👏💔.”
Miranda Wilson (Megan) retweeted a post honoring Northrop:

Among the incredible outpouring of love for Northrop was another fan who also encapsulated the feeling across social media, writing on X, “So sorry for your loss!
