On the April 23 episode of Days of Our Lives, Eric and Sloan have a heated exchange because he still can’t account for where their money is going, and Sloan is evading his questions at every turn.
Sloan Turns the Argument Around on Eric
Eric (Greg Vaughan, who recently recovered from a serious issue) entered his and Sloan’s (Jessica Serfaty) apartment, wheeling baby Jude in his carriage. He told her that after he talked with Leo (Greg Rikaart) about potentially getting a job as a photographer for the Invader, he overheard Lady Whistleblower on the phone, telling the person on the other end that he would give Eric a ringing endorsement for the job. Eric realized Leo was talking to Sloan and asked her what was going on between the two.
At first denying it, Sloan eventually admitted she called him because he owed her for being his attorney who went above and beyond for his case. She had asked Leo to lobby for Eric because she wanted him to succeed. If his photography business started generating revenue, they could become a power couple that people envy. Eric doesn’t want that out of life, and besides, he didn’t buy her motivation at all.
He showed Sloan that their financial numbers weren’t adding up and that she had just manipulated them to make them work, but she felt it was a trick on her part. He was concerned that a great deal of money was unaccounted for.
Sloan told him he was mistaken and she did the numbers perfectly. Eric asked her if she perhaps had a gambling or shopping addiction and pressed her to fess up about where their money was going. He started begging her to come clean, and she turned things around (which she’s so deft at doing) and accused him of projecting his anxiety about their finances onto her. Their discussion became a heated argument, and Sloan started to rant about how she takes care of all the bills and then sarcastically told him to throw other bills at her, like student loans or anything else.
He told her not to be a martyr, which royally offended her, so she took the baby carriage and stormed off to go for a walk. In Horton Square, Sloan told the baby that grown-ups often have disagreements and that sometimes “it’s because someone doesn’t know what’s in his best interest.” Obviously, it’s in her best interest that Eric doesn’t know she’s been paying Leo hush money to keep secret the fact that they stole Jude from EJ (Daniel Feuerriegel) and Nicole (Arianne Zucker). (Learn more about the baby theft here.)
Speaking of the devil, she bumped into EJ and asked him why he gave Stefan a good deal, only to try to sabotage it with the judge. He told her his family situation was none of her business and insisted she remembers that then abruptly walked away. She muttered to Jude, “Little does he know, Jude. Little does he know.”
Meanwhile, at their apartment, Eric went through the mail and found a past-due notice for Sloan. He opened it and was shocked to see it was a credit card statement with daily charges at the Salem Inn. He then wondered what was going on with Sloan.
Pop Culture Reference of the Day
DAYS often has subtle pop culture references in the characters’ dialogue, so it comes as no surprise that Alex (Robert Scott Wilson) made one when he was talking to Theresa during this episode. Referring to Konstantin (John Kapelos), he stated, “This guy, he just…he gives off this, like, Uriah Heep vibe. Just swarmy and greedy.”
Uriah Heep was a classic heavy metal band whose contemporaries included Deep Purple, Led Zeppelin, and Black Sabbath, among others, in the ‘60s and ‘70s, and they still tour today!
