Peter Reckell brought joy to Days of our Lives fans after he reprised his role as Bo Brady on both Days of our Lives Beyond Salem last year and on DAYS this year. Alas, Bo no sooner came back from the dead than he went into a coma after being shot by his son, Shawn. It’s frustrating but…the stage is set for yet another return.
“My daughter Loden asked me where I wanted to go next in life,” Reckell shared with Soap Hub earlier this year when we chatted with him about his 40th anniversary as Bo (read that interview here). This coincided with the time Bo went into a coma after being shot.
“If this is the end [of Bo], I’m one extremely lucky person,” Reckell offered. “I have worked with some of the best actors out there. I’ve gotten to run the gamut of emotions with different relationships in Bo’s life. This has been incredible — what my life has been for the last 40 years.
“The only caveat to this is the way this story has ended [for now] is that the audience really deserves another chance to stay goodbye to Bo,” Reckell offers. “I don’t know what Kristian’s [Alfonso, Hope] feelings are. But that coupling, Bo and Hope, really deserve to have some kind of resolution — especially with the 60th anniversary coming up [in 2025].”
To the fans who’ve followed him for four decades, Reckell says, “I came back [this last time] and was so nervous. In this industry, it’s out of sight, out of mind. I did the heaven scenes and came down and squared off against the Devil. The show didn’t know what was going to happen. I just can’t believe that people have come back to the show to see Bo Brady. It’s blown me away. I’m thankful that they have not only come back to watch but have been vocal about wanting to see more of Bo and Hope.
“I’m happy to see [write-ups] of Kristian’s performance,” said Reckell. “She, Brandon [Beemer, Shawn], Mary Beth [Evans, Kayla], Stephen [Nichols, Steve]…everyone. They all played their best. It’s been a great run. I do believe the show is going to have us back. I had a conversation with Ken [Corday, executive producer]. They’ve got a renewal for two years [but] there’s [also] the writers’ strike [Editor’s note: The WGA strike has since been resolved, as has the SAG/AFTRA strike.] I feel that there is something coming up for us, but I don’t know when.”
DAYS shoots about five to six months ahead, and there’s been no rumblings of Bo and Hope returning to Salem. However, the show is also pretty good about keeping things under wraps, too. If and when news of Reckell’s and/or Alfonso’s return to Salem becomes available, Soap Hub will bring you all the details.
In the meantime, Reckell has a simple message for his devotees: “I want to thank the fans for their support.”
