Paulina learned that there’s a mayoral recall petition to have her removed on the June 12 episode of Days of Our Lives. Also, Leo urgently sought mental health, as his self-esteem seemed to have taken a vacation.

She Received Shocking News

After Paulina (Jackée Harry) woke up from a nightmare, she told Abe (James Reynolds) that she didn’t know if she could forgive herself for exposing Chanel (Raven Bowens) and her unborn child to radiation. Abe got a call from a friend on the city council named Reuben, who warned him that a petition was filed to recall Paulina as mayor. She was flabbergasted and demanded to know who was behind it. He said it was an organization called the CCS — Concerned Citizens of Salem. After making several calls, they learned the source of the CCS and didn’t say it out loud, but we all know who it is. Cut to EJ (Daniel Feuerriegel), who got a call from his secretary Rita (Maggie Carney) and was delighted to hear that the petition to recall Paulina was going in front of the city council.

Paulina’s going to have a huge fight on her hands if she wants to keep her job as mayor. It doesn’t help that the Spectator has been printing reports about her radioactive adventures and that it may have affected Chanel’s baby. EJ is well-known for his ruthlessness and will stop at nothing to not only have her removed, but get himself installed in her place. It’ll be interesting to see how events unfold in this storyline.

Leo Needed Marlena’s Help

Eating in Horton Square, Leo (Greg Rikaart) encountered a shirtless man who needed a glass of water because he had been jogging. Lady Whistleblower wasted no time and asked the man out on a date. Sadly, for Leo, the guy was straight. This struck something in Leo’s mind, causing him to rush to Marlena (Deidre Hall) and pour his heart out about feeling unloved. There were some genuinely tender moments, especially considering Marlena has several reasons to strongly dislike Leo. But always carrying herself with poise and politeness, she complimented him and admitted that she found him to be hilarious at times.

He’s made some major strides as a character and had genuine tears in his eyes as he relayed the story of how Dimitri (Peter Porte) dumped him and how he felt “tortured and miserable 75% of the time.” For a character who started out as a sleazy schemer, Rikaart has really turned things around for his alter ego, and you can’t help but feel sorry for Leo because he’s really been putting a lot of effort into being a good person.

Pop Culture Reference of the Day

Paulina fell asleep on her couch and awoke from a recurring nightmare she’d been having. She explained to Abe, “It was the radiation. It turned me into this 50-foot-tall woman, and I was just rampaging through the streets of Salem. People were just running away and screaming like I was this horrible monster, and I tore the roof off of Sweet Bits and poured Chanel’s whole inventory down my gullet!” This, of course, was a reference to the classic 1958 sci-fi/horror B-Movie, Attack of the 50 Foot Woman, starring Allison Hayes, William Hudson, and Yvette Vickers. As the film’s title suggests, a woman finds that her husband has been cheating on her, and after an encounter with aliens, she grows 50 feet tall and seeks revenge.

At a doctor’s appointment, Johnny (Carson Boatman) and Chanel are treated by Dr. Mark Greene, played by newcomer Jonah Robinson. Upon learning the doctor’s name, Johnny asked, “Your name is Mark Greene?” “It is,” he replied. Johnny continued, “You mean like the guy from ER? Goose from Top Gun?” Mark quipped, “Didn’t think you were old enough to know that show!” Anthony Edwards played Mark Greene on ER, the series that launched George Clooney’s career, for a total of 180 episodes between 1994 and 2008. And everyone knows that Top Gun, starring Tom Cruise and Val Kilmer, was a blockbuster hit in 1986, with Edwards playing the ill-fated fighter pilot, Goose.
