Paul Telfer shares that feeling the door close with Sarah does not automatically send Xander back to Gwen.

On Days of our Lives, it was Valentine’s Day in Salem, and apparently, nothing says closure like a golf lesson loaded with innuendo. Xander and Gwen found themselves circling familiar territory, trading grip advice before heading back to the mansion and into each other’s arms. There was a quick check-in about Sarah, a half-joking question about how long his candle would keep burning, and then…well, skivvies were involved. On paper, it looked like a reunion. But when Paul Telfer opened up about where Xander’s head actually is, the story shifted.

Key Takeaways

  • Xander and Gwen’s Valentine’s Day hookup looked like a reunion, but it’s not a full romantic reset.
  • Paul Telfer says Xander is not open to romance with anyone right now.
  • Xander is focusing on therapy and personal growth.
  • Feeling the door close with Sarah does not automatically push him back to Gwen.
  • The fling is fun, but not a true comeback for the couple.

Xander’s Head Isn’t in the Game

Telfer spoke with Soaps and didn’t sugarcoat it. “I would say that he’s not open to romance with anyone, really,” he said, making it clear this isn’t some grand romantic reset.

According to the actor, Xander knows he has work to do, and for once, he’s not just saying it to impress someone. He’s been taking therapy seriously. He’s been trying to deal with the chaos instead of running from it. That doesn’t mean he’s suddenly saintly. It just means he’s aware.

“Only because he knows that now is the time to work internally. To work on himself,” Telfer explained. That word now matters. Xander might feel like the door to Sarah (Linsey Godfrey) is nailed shut, but that doesn’t automatically mean Gwen (Emily O’Brien) becomes the next chapter. It simply means he’s lonely, human, and occasionally weak. (Find out how Gwen’s playing an even smarter game now.)

Temptation Isn’t the Same as Commitment

Of course, temptation still exists. “If some beautiful lady were to swan into Salem, it might turn [Xander’s] head,” Telfer noted. And Gwen didn’t exactly sneak in unnoticed.

But turning his head and handing over his heart are two very different things. Telfer suggested Xander is self-aware enough to recognize that jumping into something serious would only muddy waters he’s trying to clear.

He needs space to figure out who he is without chasing someone. That doesn’t rule Gwen out forever. It just keeps this Valentine’s tumble in perspective. Fun? Yes. A full-fledged comeback? Not even close.
