When a young man claiming to be Doug Williams arrived in Salem, people hesitated to immediately believe his claim on Days of Our Lives. However, he was the real deal. And Julie was especially happy to embrace the namesake of her late husband. Although he really is who he says he is, he ultimately stole her valuable diamond necklace from the time capsule. He hocked it so he could pay back some bad guys. He feels rotten for his misdeed, leaving Doug a couple of ways to make up for that misdeed.
Get a Job, Young Man!
Doug (Peyton Meyer) could do the wrong thing and find some ne’er-do-wells to borrow money from again to buy back the necklace. But that would land him once again in a heap of trouble and would serve no real purpose. He’d only end up getting beaten within an inch of his life…again. This time around, Sarah (Linsey Godfrey) would indeed call the cops.
With all the wealthy families in town, Holly (Ashley Puzemis) could hook him up directly with someone, especially her aunt Maggie (Suzanne Rogers), to lend him the money. He could repay her by becoming the Kiriakis gardener, a position once held by Xander (Paul Telfer). Johnny (Carson Boatman) would probably be more open to helping Holly out and might understand the young man’s plight. Johnny could even get Doug a job on Body & Soul, probably not as the Best Boy, but maybe the Key Grip?

So Many Possibilities
Perhaps Doug has a skill that hasn’t been revealed yet? A skill, other than theft that could get him a high-paying job at Titan or DiMera Enterprises. Kristen (Stacey Haiduk) might even take a liking to the nice young man, who kind of resembles a young Brady (Eric Martsolf), and make him her personal assistant if he lacks any real skills.
Roman always hires unemployed people, whether they were once business tycoons or street people. Doug would fit in nicely as a sous chef at the Brady Pub.
Of course, there’s always the possibility that Leo (Greg Rikaart), who fenced the necklace for him, didn’t really sell it at all. Maybe he took pity on poor Doug and paid him out of his own pocket. Maybe he hoped Doug would regret his actions someday and want it back.
In the end, Doug needs to retrieve it and go to Julie (Susan Seaforth Hayes). He needs to confess what he’s done and how he got it back. She might be angry for a time, but his honesty will come back to him in spades as she’ll realize he truly is like his namesake, Doug Williams I (formerly played by the late Bill Hayes).
