While on tour with his Days of Our Lives co-stars for their band, The Day Players, Carson Boatman forgot a key instrument. However, with a little ingenuity, he found an acceptable solution, and the fans didn’t seem to notice.

They Needed a Little More Cowbell

DAYS’ Eric Martsolf (Brady) and Carson Boatman (Johnny) shared an Instagram post that stated, “Soap stars singin’!” and added their tour information, which included the locations, “NY, NJ, Sacramento, and Phoenix are next.” Along with their info was a video highlighting their band, The Day Players, which includes castmates Brandon Barash (Stefan) and Wally Kurth (Justin).

In the middle of the video, something hilarious happens. As the video begins with a buildup of the actors preparing to go on stage to perform as their band, clips of them playing are intercut.

Then, breaking the pace, we see Boatman entering the venue’s kitchen with the text “Forgets His Cowbell” overlaid on it. “This is gonna sound absolutely absurd,” he says to one of the kitchen staff, continuing, “You guys don’t have a pan I can borrow, do you?” Walking out of the kitchen with a huge grin on his face after some time had passed, he declared, “Crisis averted,” while holding up a metal bowl to the camera.

Unexpected Instrument

Clanging on the bowl with a drumstick, he stated, “Not quite as deep as I [thought].” Martsolf chides him, saying, “They paid [money] to see you, and you’re walking out with a f*****g pan. There should be pancake batter in it.” Carson justified his replacement with the rationale, “Hey, they’ve never seen it before. I’m giving them something they’ve never seen before…Playing mixing bowls!”

A shot of him tapping the bowl with the drumstick is shown later, which then cuts to Barash, who says, “Not bad.” The fans responded positively, with several asking the band to come to their home states, and all were clamoring for more Day Players.

Although we could all use a little more cowbell in our lives, we salute the actor for his creativity. Great job, Carson!
