Ardent fans of General Hospital are very familiar with the Quartermaine family’s Thanksgiving tradition of having their meal ruined, so they end up ordering pizza. Actor Wally Kurth plays Ned Quartermaine on GH and also does double duty as Justin Kiriakis on Days of Our Lives. In that show’s Thanksgiving episode this year, fans were treated to an unexpected holiday soap opera in-joke.

Much Ado About Stuffing

On the November 26 episode of DAYS, Maggie (Suzanne Rogers) and Bonnie (Judi Evans) were at the Kiriakis mansion. And after gushing over Sarah (Linsey Godfrey) being able to walk again, Maggie noticed Bonnie wearing an apron. She asked why, and Bonnie explained, “Cook chowed down on my tainted cupcake that I stupidly left out. And now he’s in bed with a bucket.”

As Bonnie detailed how she would deep-fry the turkey, Maggie smelled something burning and a smoke detector was heard in the house. Later, the two came out of the kitchen with an upset Bonnie apologizing because she thought she could have burned the house down. But Maggie reassured her it was “just a small fire.” Maggie further consoled Bonnie, and the two agreed that they at least had their health and their family.

They Talked Turkey

Meanwhile, Justin was at the Brady Pub and got a call from Bonnie, who told him there was an issue with the dinner and that he could grab some turkey takeout before he left. He explained that the pub was closed for business and offered, “I’ll pick up some pizza.” She questioned having pizza on Thanksgiving and he replied, “I know it’s not traditional, but some families do.”

What a hilariously sly nod to GH! What made the joke even funnier was that Kayla (Mary Beth Evans) overheard the conversation. She went up to Justin, saying, “Forget about the pizza. That would be sacrilege.” She then told him to bring Maggie and everyone at the mansion to the pub for a proper turkey dinner. This fun minor plot point was a delight in lieu of an actual inter-network crossover of the shows. Now, if the Quartermaines could figure out how to find a similar solution…
