For the last few years, The Daytime Emmys have been a scaled-down version due to COVID-19. For this year’s program, the 2022 version will be a much bigger production, and fan-favorite John Aniston from Days of our Lives is set to be honored.
Soap fans and the industry alike will need to wait till next month to know who the nominees are for the Daytime Emmys 2022 but Aniston (Victor Kiriakis, DAYS) will definitely be taking home gold as this year’s Lifetime Achievement Award recipient.
“We look forward to honoring this year’s unparalleled class of Lifetime Achievement honorees — each an icon in their craft,” said Adam Sharp, President & CEO, NATAS, of John Aniston’s award and other non-soap opera recipients. “After two years of virtual ceremonies, we’re overjoyed to once again be together, in-person, to celebrate the best of television.”
John Aniston was born on the island of Crete, Greece, and came to the United States when he was 2 years old. He graduated from Penn State University with a bachelor’s degree in theater arts. Before becoming an actor, he served in the U.S. Navy as an intelligence officer on active duty in Panama. In 1962, he appeared on the New York stage in the musical Little Mary Sunshine. His other stage credits include a part in Arthur Miller’s Death of a Salesman.
Aniston has appeared on multiple soap operas. He began his daytime drama career on DAYS in 1970, playing the part of Dr. Eric Richards. He returned to the series in 1986 as Victor Kiriakis, the biological father of Bo Brady (Peter Reckell). In between Salem stints, Aniston appeared on the soap operas Love of Life as Eddie Aleata and Search for Tomorrow as Martin Tourneur.
Aniston has brought strength and vulnerability to his role as Victor. Both a powerful force with which to be reckoned and a caring family man, Aniston’s Victor is one of Daytime TV’s most complex figures. DAYS’ dialogue writers have crafted memorable zingers for the actor to deliver over the years.
Aniston is father to TV and film actress Jennifer Aniston (Rachel, Friends; Alex Levy, The Morning Show; Annie Hughes, The Iron Giant). The two presented together at The 22nd Annual Daytime Emmy Awards in 1995. Aniston was nominated in 2017 in the category of Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series for his role as Victor on DAYS. Now, he’s set to be a winner at this year’s Daytime Emmys ceremony.
Other DAYS Daytime Emmy Lifetime Achievement Award recipients include Bill Hayes and Susan Seaforth Hayes (Doug Williams and Julie Williams) in 2018. John Clarke (ex-Mickey) and Frances Reid (ex-Alice) in 2004.
The 49th Annual Daytime Creative Arts & Lifestyle Emmy Awards will be held on Saturday, June 18, 2022, at the Pasadena Convention Center, Pasadena. The 49th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards will air on CBS on Friday, June 24, 2022, from the Pasadena Civic Auditorium, Pasadena, CA.
