Julianna Margulies has played both a nurse and a lawyer. Now, she’s taking on the role of a broadcast journalist in the Apple Original series The Morning Show.
Julianna Margulies Joins The Morning show
The Emmy-award winning actress will play Laura Peterson, an anchor at UBA News. The series, currently in production, stars Jennifer Aniston and Reese Witherspoon, who are also executive producers.
Aniston plays Alex Levy. Witherspoon plays Bradley Jackson. The cast also includes Steve Carell as Mitch Kessler, Emmy-winner Billy Crudup as Cory Ellison, Mark Duplass as Chip Black, Nestor Carbonell as Yanko Flores, Bel Powley as Claire Conway, Karen Pittman as Mia Jordan, and Desean Terry as Daniel Henderson.
In addition to Margulies, other new actors to the show in its sophomore season include Greta Lee as Stella Bak and Ruairi O’Connor as Ty Fitzgerald. Hasan Minhaj will be in Season 2 as a guest star.
The Morning Show shines a candid light on the cutthroat world of morning news, telling the stories of the lives of the people who work in morning television.
Margulies reunites with former ER director Mimi Leder, who does the same on this show for several episodes as well as executive producer duties. Michael Ellenberg is The Morning Show’s executive producer. Kerry Ehrin, who developed the series, is showrunner and executive producer. The series is based on the book Top of the Morning: Inside the Cutthroat World of Morning TV written by Brian Stelter.
This isn’t Margulies’ only new venture. She’s authored a book, Sunshine Girl, due out May 4, 2021. Margulies shot to stardom on the long-running NBC medical drama ER as nurse Carol Hathaway in 1994. She played the part until 2000 and returned for the series last season in 2006.
Margulies spent part of her childhood in New Hampshire, Paris, and England. Her films include Ghost Ship, Evelyn, Snakes on a Plane. Margulies won an Emmy for her role on ER and took home two Emmys for her role on The Good Wife. The Morning Show Season 1 is streaming on Apple TV now.
