On the heels of the Days of our Lives backstage drama, we’ve now learned that the Peacock streaming soap opera is going to stop production temporarily.
Deadline reported that DAYS, which was dark this week and was set to resume taping on Monday, July 31, will not resume production. A rep for Peacock confirmed to the industry news site that production has been suspended. There’s buzz that it’s just for a week, however. So, the actors could be back taping at the Burbank Studios as early as August 7.
Earlier this week, Deadline published a lengthy report alleging ongoing misconduct by co-executive producer/director Albert Alarr. An investigation into the situation was conducted by Sony Pictures Television, which distributes DAYS. Deadline reported that Alarr was asked to undergo training to correct some concerns and was given a written warning.
Before the production shutdown was announced, Alarr was allegedly scheduled to direct an episode next week. Now, that won’t be happening as the entire show won’t be in production. Presumably, the shutdown is going to give decision-makers time to examine the situation before it can become more complex.
Alarr hasn’t been on set as much in recent months however, it’s unclear whether that’s due to the writer’s strike or to the investigation into his alleged misconduct. Deadline reports that Alarr’s wife began writing DAYS in March.
Soap Hub published a story on actors Arianne Zucker (Nicole), Lisa Rinna (ex-Billie), and Peter Reckell (Bo) reacting to the show’s backstage drama. Prior to Days switching from NBC to Peacock last September it was the network’s lone soap opera. DAYS was created by Ted Corday and Irna Phillips. Following Corday’s untimely death less than a year into the show, his wife Mrs. Ted (Betty) Corday took over as executive producer. Their son Ken Corday is DAYS’s current executive producer.
