In 2013, Casey Moss took over the role of JJ Deveraux on Days of Our Lives. Trouble always followed JJ, especially when he covered up the fact that he was doing drugs with Theresa the night she overdosed. After continuing to battle drugs, he cleaned his act up and left town for his own sanity. JJ was last seen in Salem at his sister Abigail’s funeral, but now that she’s seemingly back from the dead, he’s also returning.
It’s Like a Family Reunion
Abigail’s return from the dead has some people believing it, while others remain skeptical. Viewers know that she’s a fake Abby, or Fabby, played by AnnaLynne McCord. Criminal mastermind Clyde Weston (James Read) has Fabby and her brother Dr. Mark Greene (Jonah Robinson) over a barrel. Clyde orders them to fake Abby’s return, get into Chad’s (Billy Flynn) good graces, and marry him. Then Mark must kill Chad so Clyde can get his hands on all that DiMera money. Otherwise, Clyde will kill their mother.
Fabby told Chad that she had plastic surgery, explaining why she doesn’t look like Abby, and we later learned that she really did have plastic surgery, and she and Mark’s siblings don’t recognize her. With Casey Moss’ return to the role of JJ, it’ll be interesting to see how things play out. Moss spoke with Soap Opera Digest and explained that “Coming back is like visiting family. It’s been very special.” (Find out what Fabby’s regrets are.)
Back and Better
Moss understood that playing in soap opera land is radically different than the real world, and in order to prepare for his return he explained that “I didn’t necessarily go about my choices as if I was living in the reality that we live in.” His approach to meeting this new version of Abby is loving, as he’s glad she’s back, but JJ remains, “A little bit skeptical, but also weirded out, but also that these are kind of how things go in this reality that we’re portraying.”
Moss feels that JJ operates off of emotion rather than logic, and JJ would just be really happy that his sister is back. But this iteration will be a more evolved and mature JJ, and Moss told SOD that “What the fans will see with JJ is he’s just a much more hardened individual, and he’s actually using his brain.” He praised the writers for putting JJ in a situation where he must use his reason to truly understand what’s going on, and he is thoroughly happy to be back.
