Sloan told E.J. the truth about baby Jude but reminded him what revealing it will cost on the May 6 episode of Days of Our Lives. Eric finally came to trust Sloan as she dug herself deeper into keeping the secret.
A completely livid E.J. (Daniel Feuerriegel) demanded that Sloan (Jessica Serfaty) explain what she meant by the term “half right.” She revealed the news that Eric (Greg Vaughan) was actually Jude’s biological father with Nicole (Arianne Zucker), which left a shocked look on the DA’s face. After he demanded a DNA test, Sloan was more than happy to oblige and said that she’d provide him with a swab from the baby, and Eric’s toothbrush. Seeing that he was brimming with a knee-jerk reaction, she insisted that they work together or lose their respective partners. E.J. had no recourse but to believe her in the end. Throughout the episode, Feuerriegel and Serfaty’s acting was top-notch, as their emotions were blatantly plastered across their faces.
A flustered E.J. went home and downed a glass of liquor, prompting Nicole to ask him what was wrong. You could see the torment in his face as he held back and blew it off as a long day at work. They talked about Holly struggling with her make-up homework, and he seemed to genuinely feel bad for Nicole’s daughter. They both agreed that their jobs were stressful and that a potential vacation would be in order but at a later time. Nicole insinuated that some bedroom fun was needed, so the two got frisky and ran upstairs.
Meanwhile, Eric returned home much calmer than when he left. He told Sloan about Leo (Greg Rikaart) being so drunk that he passed out and admitted he felt bad for Lady Whistleblower. Sloan apologized for not telling him what Leo had put her through, and the always nice Eric chose to trust her. (At what point is Eric going to realize that he shouldn’t touch the hot stove?) They agreed that there would be no more secrets between them, but he didn’t see that Sloan’s face was full of concern. Let’s not forget that Leo is a wild card in all of this and could very well go elsewhere with his secret if his back is against the wall.
While E.J. and Sloan are seasoned liars, this time around, it looks tenuous at best. E.J. is clearly still processing everything but will most likely get to a point where he’s going to find something to hold over Sloan’s head that doesn’t involve the baby. He obviously loves Nicole, and the more he sees Sloan and Eric with the baby, the more he’s going to want to tell his wife the truth. It’s a catch-22 situation because the truth would most likely drive Nicole into Eric’s arms. But the longer E.J. sits on it, she’s going to drop him like a bad habit when it’s eventually revealed.
At the same time, Sloan also has to deal with her litany of lies, from Leo blackmailing her about the baby swap to the truth about Jude’s biological parents. It’s only a matter of time before either E.J. or Sloan cracks and spills the beans…unless (in typical soap fashion) one of them states the secret out loud and another character hears it.
No matter how you slice it, the truth is going to get both of them in the end, with devastating consequences to their relationships.
