Abe and Kate considered purchasing the rights to the soap Body and Soul on the June 3 episode of Days of Our Lives. Plus, Chad got closer to proving Abigail is alive, and Bobby may have the secret to a mysterious murder.
Abe (James Reynolds) was distraught when he learned B&S had been canceled. At first, thinking it was just merely preempted, Kate (Lauren Koslow) arrived and gave him the bad news. Like any real-world soap fan, Abe asked how that could be possible since the show had been on air for decades.
Kate responded that “there were some political issues behind the scenes.” Clearly, art is imitating life here as DAYS had some real-life troubles when former co-executive producer Albert Alaar was accused of alleged impropriety behind the scenes. But even more than simply alluding to the negativity that had occurred on the show, the story went deeper, tapping into how fans feel about things.
When All My Children and One Life to Live were canceled by ABC in 2011, it took everyone, including the cast and crew, by surprise. Here, Abe reflected on how all fans feel when their favorite soap is cast away into the ether by saying, “That’s it? I mean, no…no goodbye? No thanks for watching. It’s just…just over.”
Like a character dying on a sudser, his words hit home, and we felt his pain. Most soap fans have been through it, and while hopefully, this isn’t a portent of things to come for DAYS, the fact that a show has finally addressed what fans truly feel is a refreshing take on things, and something that’s sadly, extremely relatable. But fear not, Kate suggested that they get the rights to the show and resurrect B&S, which would be interesting if they get the actors from it, who are also actors on DAYS, to reprise their roles. It’s already been mentioned several times that Abe thinks several characters look like people in Salem, so when the worlds eventually collide, it’s gonna be so trippy we won’t even need any hallucinogens to enjoy it! (By the way, is the abbreviation for that show supposed to be another way of saying the swear word that means something isn’t true…? If so, what are the writers implying there?)
After talking with Julie (Susan Seaforth Hayes), Chad (Billy Flynn) realized he needed to look into whether or not Abigail (Marci Miller) was truly embalmed and buried. He then spoke to Kayla (Mary Beth Evans), who rattled off a list of people (herself included) who were presumed dead at one time or another and cited the fact that drugs exist that can slow heart rate and breathing down enough to give the appearance of death.
She reminded him that while Abigail was taken to the morgue, an autopsy was never performed. So, he went to Paulina (Jackée Harry) and told her he wanted to exhume his late wife’s body. We shall see whether or not Abby’s in her grave, and if she isn’t, she’s most likely the woman in the video that Clyde (James Read) gave Chad.
The Bobby personality is growing stronger. Not even Stephanie could get Everett to emerge, especially since we now know he’s not taking his meds and hiding them in the hospital bed. Jada went and tried to appeal to Bobby, but when she stated, “You are Everett. That’s the real you. He’s your host personality, and you’re just…you’re his alter,” her truth provoked a harsh reaction from Bobby, who took offense, replying, “Host personality? You’re talking about me like I’m some parasite like I’m some illness, some defect in Everett’s psyche, not like I’m an actual person that matters.”
Things got even more twisted when he revealed that he could help her solve a crime, and eventually admitted it was nothing, “…just a murder.” Now, we don’t know if he’s messing with her or not. Perhaps it’s something in his past, like did he kill his abusive parents?
Clearly, from Bobby’s demeanor, he’s far more sinister than Everett and is most likely capable of murder. But we doubt that he would implicate himself in anything, so this new mystery will have to unfold in due course, and perhaps the alleged murder victim is yet another body whose soul will be resurrected.
