Now that Amy Choi has pulled the plug on letting Johnny and Chanel adopt Sophia and Tate’s baby, things are heating up for Holly on Days of Our Lives. Not only could raising the baby on their own push Tate closer to Sophia, but Holly’s friendship with Doug III has put a monkey wrench into their relationship. It doesn’t help that Tate ratted out Doug to Julie for stealing her grandmother’s necklace, causing Holly to break things off with him. Holly’s portrayer, Ashley Puzemis, opened up about the complexity of Holly and Tate’s romance.
Their Relationship Was Heated
Puzemis explained to Soap Opera Digest that Holly and Tate (Leo Howard) were having issues even before Tate called Julie, referring to their relationship as “heated.” She further remarked about Holly and Tate’s unique situation: “Holly’s an 18-year-old girl, and she still is choosing to be with her boyfriend after finding out he got her best friend pregnant. So I feel it’s definitely complicated.”
She further noted that Doug III (Peyton Meyer) getting Holly involved in his theft drama — and their growing friendship — had caused Tate to become jealous. He was so worried that she would get in trouble because of what Doug did that Tate realized Julie (Susan Seaforth Hayes) needed to know who stole the necklace. That way, the spotlight would point to Doug III and not to Holly, even though Holly repeatedly told him that Doug would confess everything to Julie.

Doug Adds Drama
Puzemis stated that Holly and Tate’s breakup has less to do with Doug III and more to do with Tate betraying her by telling on him to Julie. “Holly is just so hurt by Tate’s betrayal and his audacity to be jealous when he’s having a child with her ex-best friend, so all these emotions come out,” she explained.

She also said that working with Meyer was enjoyable and added to the overall drama of the story. “There are multiple layers going on with everybody’s relationships,” she stated. She also added that the dynamic between Tate and Sophia (Rachel Boyd) coupled with the Holly and Doug drama “Overlaps with Holly and Tate.” She appreciates that these relationships and their evolution continually remain enjoyable to watch.
