There’s been something conspicuously missing from Salem over the past few months. Days of our Lives has been missing its heart. But that’s all about to change now that Maggie Horton Kiriakis’s joyous return has already been scripted.
Days of our Lives – Love and Order
That’s right. Actress Suzanne Rogers is back taping scenes at the NBC soap’s Burbank studios. Viewers can expect to see Maggie resurface in the next few months, when she finally returns home and, hopefully, restores love and order to the flailing house of Kiriakis.
DOOL Exit Plan
When Rogers decided to take a break from the soap in 2020, the show’s writers had to quickly concoct a storyline out for the actress. So they sent Maggie off to visit her daughter, Summer (Marie Wilson). The character hasn’t been seen or heard from since February 2021.
Days of our Lives: What She’s Missed
As a result, Maggie wasn’t there to help her daughter, Sarah Horton (Linsey Godfrey), prepare for her wedding to Xander (Paul Telfer). She wasn’t there when Kristen DiMera (Stacy Haiduk), disguised as Sarah, dumped Xander before the ceremony and he began his hideous downward spiral.
Nor was she there to help Brady Black (Eric Martsolf) through his latest debacle with Kristen, guide Philip Kiriakis (Jay Kenneth Johnson) as he tried to win back Chloe (Nadia Bjorlin), be there for Justin Kiriakis (Wally Kurth) as he’s fallen for Bonnie Lockhart (Judi Evans), or keep her irascible husband Victor Kiriakis (John Aniston) in line.
DAYS Heart and Soul
Maggie’s absence has left a huge void on Days of our Lives and, in particular, under the Kiriakis roof. Not only is she the heart and soul of the show, but also a truly unique character.
Maggie’s a woman who possesses the ability to be both tender and tough; kind, yet firm; a caring sounding board who listens to others’ woes, but won’t think twice about doling out the tough advice where she sees fit.
Above all, she’s simply beloved and respected by fans as one of the longest-running characters on the soap. Rogers has portrayed Maggie on and off since August 20, 1973. Having her back in Salem again will be a welcome breath of fresh air on a show that’s truly missed her.
