How Bryan Dattilo’s Return Has Reinvigorated Days of our Lives

The return of Bryan Dattilo as Lucas Horton has totally reinvigorated Days of our Lives. From the moment he barged into the DiMera mansion and confronted Kate about his runaway daughter, Allie, to finding out the teenager was pregnant, the soap’s been off and running in a riveting new direction.

Bryan Dattilo: A Welcome Return

It’s Dattilo’s well-established rapport with all the players involved in the front-burner plot — not to mention daytime newcomer Linsday Arnold (Allie) — that make it work so beautifully. And it all starts at the top — namely, his daytime mom.

The Kate Connection

Is there a better mother-son combo in all of daytime than Lauren Koslow (Kate) and Dattilo? The pair have been playing Lucas and Kate’s unbridled relationship since 1996, and there’s a natural fiery chemistry between them. They spat and squabble just like a real mom and son, addressing past history with snarky comments, eye rolls, and lots of attitude. As a viewer, you could watch them bicker all day.

The Dad Dynamic

Bryan Dattilo also brings a unique daytime dad into the mix as Lucas. With Chandler Massey’s Will, he’s calm and cool; more pal than pop. In fact, Lucas fully recognizes Will as the more mature one between the two of them. His presence allows Will to shine as the rational rock of their family.

With Allie, Lucas is a protective girl dad, complete with all the hotheadedness that comes with having a rebellious teenage daughter. DAYS had been lacking in the fiery protective father department, but not anymore. Dattilo’s reaction when Lucas found out Allie was pregnant was off the charts. Red-faced and fuming, he was spot on.

Waiting for Sami

As much as Dattilo has enhanced the soap, there’s more to come when Alison Sweeney arrives on the scene as Sami, Lucas’ ex and Allie’s mother. Plus, the two actors’ shared work history – nearly three decades – and bond is incomparable. Not to mention, the pair is masterful at playing parental dysfunction and both deliver with dynamic energy.
