It’s been a while since news hit that Days of Our Lives has let Olivia Rose Keegan, who plays devious and demented Claire Brady, go and we at Soap Hub are still scratching our collective heads. Here’s why.
Claire is the spoon that stirs the younger set’s pot — in other words, she makes things happen. Not since Sami (Alison Sweeney) has the show had such a great young troublemaker. So what if she’s hated for the things she does — so was Sami!
The young girl was perfectly positioned as she’s tied to several huge Salem families. As the daughter of Belle (Martha Madison), she is tied to Marlena (Deidre Hall) and John (Drake Hogestyn).
As the daughter of Shawn (Brandon Beemer), she is tied to the Hortons via grandma Hope (Kristian Alfonso) and the Bradys, via granddad Bo (Peter Reckell). In other words, anything she does wrong (and spectacularly so) would affect just about everyone.
While it may have taken Keegan a little while to get her footing, she’s hilarious in the role now and seems to have realized and embraced exactly who Claire needs to be — how can they let her go now?
When Claire has one of her fantasies and then the camera cuts back to Keegan, the look on her face is always priceless. She’s a troublemaker and that is exactly what DAYS and Salem need to shake things up, especially since Sweeney isn’t available to return full time.
But DAYS did take things too far by having her willing to kill family — her Aunt Ciara (Victoria Konefal). That was a shocker to comprehend and may be for a while to come.
But, the mind forgets all of the horrible things Sami did to Carrie in the name of winning Austin’s love. Fans couldn’t stand Sami for the longest time but then they couldn’t help but root for her. The same could and should have been able to happen for Claire.
Then again, no mistake can’t be undone — Will Horton has proved that. Here’s hoping DAYS will rectify this one.
