Liam’s been slowly stepping out of the shadows on Days of our Lives, though “smooth transition” is not exactly the phrase anyone would use. When he first showed up, he seemed rather suspicious. Now, that edge has started to wear down a bit, mostly because of Ari and the reality of being a father. But there are still questions lingering regarding what he’s done, who he’s tied to, and how much of that bad-boy reputation is still lurking under the surface. But now, according to actor Hank Northrop, that tension is about to matter in a much bigger way.

Key Takeaways

  • Northops stated that Liam’s shift is intentional, moving from guarded criminal to father-first character.
  • He’s now “a totally different person,” with more openness and trust.
  • His slow-burning romance with Ari builds naturally, not instantly.
  • His past isn’t erased, just reframed as he tries to improve.
  • Northrop teased unresolved history ahead.
  • Liam’s core drive is protecting his son, not power, with some humor sprinkled in.

Liam Isn’t the Same Guy Who Walked Into Salem

Northrop recently sat down with Michael Fairman TV and made it clear that Liam’s evolution isn’t cosmetic. “If you look at the first episode, this guy comes on strong…he’s a delinquent, he’s a criminal, but he does it all from a place of love for his son,” he said, framing Liam less as a villain and more as someone shaped by circumstance.

Northrop described the change as intentional, pointing out that Liam today is “a totally different person” from the one who first showed up, all walls and suspicion. The performance has followed that arc, loosening as Liam begins to trust people instead of bracing against them.

The slow burn with Ari (now being played by Vico Escorcia) plays directly into that change. Rather than rushing into a typical soap pairing, the relationship has been allowed to breathe, He explained, “The writers could not, in my opinion, have done this any better. It’s not just the throw ‘em together and hope they stick. This has been a slow burn. It’s a slow build.”

He further noted that the connection grows out of circumstance and curiosity rather than instant passion. Even so, Liam isn’t drifting into some easy redemption. His past isn’t being erased, just… reframed as he is actively trying to become better, particularly for his son.

But the Past Isn’t Done With Him Yet

If Liam’s present is about growth, his future feels like friction waiting to spark. Northrop didn’t play it like a wrap-up; he called it “a lot of runway,” which is actor-speak for we’re nowhere near done digging. He pointed to pieces of Liam’s past that haven’t surfaced yet, including the weight behind his last name and how his connections are becoming a slow-burning fuse.

That’s where the tension sits. Liam’s trying to move forward, but Salem has a long memory and a short temper when it comes to letting people reinvent themselves. “Liam is trying to be a better person, he is, he really is,” Northrop stated.

He explained that Liam’s motivation is not because he’s evil or craves power. He’s a regular guy whose “sole goal in life is to take care of his 5-year-old kid.” Northrop has also let some humor sneak into his scenes, which makes him relatable to the viewers. As a result, fans will be on edge when whatever he’s been trying to outrun finally catches up with him.
