The prospect of Ben without Ciara has left Days of our Lives “Cin” fans disheartened –and in panic mode.
Robert Scott Wilson Talks Ben’s Future
They hate seeing leading man Robert Scott Wilson without TV bride Victoria Konefal, who’s left the show for a while. But, more importantly, they’re worried Wilson will follow suit.
Days of our Lives Future
“[The fans] are all freaking out,” says Wilson. “They all think I’m going to leave, and I haven’t said too much about it. But as long as they’re writing for me… as long as I’m not just floating by in the story at DAYS, I don’t plan on leaving. I’ve found someplace where I want to give it my all, and I expect that on both sides. As long as they’re writing for me, I’m not going anywhere.”
Smack in the middle of the “What really happened to Ciara?” story, things heated up last week. Ben and Hope (Kristian Alfonso) tracked down and confronted Ciara’s abductor, Vincent.
The Verdict on Ciara
“Ben has to try to control himself because he obviously wants to kill the guy. But, at the same time, he wants to get the truth out of him,” explains Wilson. “He feels like Vincent is the only one besides Ciara who knows [what happened to her]. So Ben wants to be hopeful and believe he can get the truth out of Vincent.”
However, it turned out to be a case of “be careful what you wish for,” when Vincent delivered horrible news about Ciara. “It’s another shocking moment. Another heavy moment,” notes Wilson. “But Ben won’t accept that she’s really gone. He can’t accept it. He has this connection and this feeling that she’s still out there. So he refuses to truly believe that she’s gone.”
He Still Believes
According to Robert Scott Wilson, Ben really has no choice. “That’s what’s keeping him going,” he points out. “Ben feels he has no life outside of that. Ciara has been his anchor for so long. He also feels it’s his mission, his place, is to be that person to not give up and to keep looking… to not lose sight of what he believes can still be true. So he’s hanging onto the hope that she’s still alive.”
In the interim, he’ll have to try to move on, which will be a challenge for the former Necktie Killer. “If Ciara is gone, there’s no greater test for Ben to see if he’s able to continue this redemption [path] he’s been on and his new life without her. The ultimate test for this man is to see if he can survive on his own two legs without having his partner.”
Return to the Days of our Lives Dark Side
Would Wilson welcome Ben’s dark side returning for a while? “The great part about this character is that he always has his past. He carries that with him forever,” points out the actor. “I don’t want him to turn all the way where he’s this violent killer, bad guy, again. He needs to keep his humanity. But Ben is very heavily layered. When I walk into the room as Ben, I take all his baggage with me. I think being a little intimidating is a good thing.
“I don’t want to be a squeaky clean guy, who’s heartbroken… this ‘poor puppy’ guy,” continues Wilson. “This a guy who’s got to stand on his own two feet. He’s been through a lot, but of all things that have happened to him don’t compare to him losing his other half. This is his ultimate test.”
Moving on… Romantically
While Wilson can envision Ben moving on, there are some areas he’s resistant to. “I don’t think he’s going to be somebody who’s moving on romantically,” says Wilson. “I mean, if things develop, things develop. But I don’t think he’s in a place where he’s looking for love. He’s just trying to pick up the pieces that were shattered. If somebody else could help make him whole again, great. If they can’t, then Ciara will still be the one.”
There’s no particular actress on the Days of our Lives canvas that Robert Scott Wilson would choose for Ben’s next romantic interest. “I couldn’t pick,” he insists. “I’m happy to work with all of them. We’ve got a fantastic group of ladies. I don’t think anybody would be a bad choice.”
What About Claire?
As for rumblings about a possible Ben and Claire hookup, Wilson is “sure that friendship will develop. They’ve both lost a huge part of their lives with Ciara,” says Wilson. “So we’ll see. Isabel Durant is a great actress. She’s new to daytime, but she’s a pro. She’s definitely experienced. We’ll see what happens. You never know.” Days of our Lives (DOOL) airs weekdays on NBC.
