Days of Our Lives Star Greg Vaughan Comes Clean About His Departure

Recent shake-ups in the top brass at “Days of Our Lives” seemed to fuel Greg Vaughan’s departure earlier this year.

The actor claimed he got the news of his exit over the phone.

“‘Listen, I know your contract’s coming up. We’re not going to be picking it up,'” Vaughan said an executive told him. He recounts his last days the show in an interview featured in the April 28 issue of Soap Opera Digest.

The good-natured actor said he didn’t take being let go personally and harbors no ill will about it. “It’s the nature of the beast–we all know the business.” It’s also not the first time this has happened to him.

What will Vaughan remember the most about his time on DAYS? First, there he continually felt he wanted more prominent storylines. Then, he fondly recalls the cast and crew bonds that come from working on a soap, with each member pitching in to make the greatest product they can offer their fans. Everyone “sacrifices” for the soap family, he added.

Vaughan added he loved his character’s pairing with Nicole (Arianne Zucker) and their scorching on-screen chemistry. He also cherished his last-minute coupling and scenes with Jennifer (Melissa Reeves).

All you va-va-voom Vaughan fans out there needn’t worry too much about seeing the actor and his formidable performing skills on your screens. Before his last DAYS scene even aired, Vaughan nabbed a leading role on an upcoming OWN series, “Queen Sugar.”

Eric still has many ties to Salem, including mom Marlena, so after he’s served his time in prison, maybe he’ll be back one day! Regarding a possible return to Days, Vaughan said coyly, “There’s been some discussion.”
