Election Day: Who Will be the Next Mayor on Days Of Our Lives?

One of the most free-for-all things about soaps is not the number of people back from the dead, how easy it is to switch paternity tests in a lab, or soap opera rapid aging syndrome. It’s how local elections can just happen…whenever. Currently, Days Of Our Lives is all in a tizzy over who will be the next mayor. So, naturally, we asked almost 12,000 fans for their vote:

Another Term!
Honest Abe (James Reynolds) for the win, 71% of you cheer. Everyone knows incumbents are more likely to be reelected – no matter what they’ve done (or not done). Their name recognition is just too strong for newcomers to overcome.

Abe could have been married to a woman from one of Salem’s most notorious crime family. His son may have been shot trying to break and enter. But it doesn’t matter. Abe is made of Teflon. Everyone loves him, and that’s that.

Besides, if Abe isn’t mayor, the writers might have to write him a real story. And nobody’s got time for that.

The Clean Slate Candidate!
It’s time for new voices and new blood, 22% of the audience counters. Let’s elect the guy with no memory, whose shacked up with another shady woman, whose adoptive dad was a serial killer, and who has a rape in his past.

Jack’s (Matthew Ashford) cute. And he’s funny. That must mean he’ll be great a governing!

No Shot
Only 6% expect to see Melinda (Laura Kai Chen) to come out on top. No one likes her. When she was district attorney, Melinda would do horrible things like prosecute criminals and refuse to heed the cries of their friends and family about how innocent they were.

Melinda did her job and, as a result, a tiny number of people who’d done bad things were punished for them. That’s not how Salem rolls.
