Days of our Lives casting director Marnie Saitta was seeing double when it came to Billy Flynn and Conner Floyd. The soap struck gold when they cast Floyd as the new Chad DiMera.

Key Takeaways

  • Billy Flynn felt like Conner Floyd was his soap twin.
  • Flynn and Floyd not only look alike, but also share many things in common.
  • The longtime DAYS casting director had to do a double-take when casting the new Chad.

Introducing the New Chad DiMera

This week, Conner Floyd made his debut as the new Chad on DAYS. Fans have already warmed up to him. In an exclusive interview with Soap Opera Digest, Flynn felt good about his character ending up in the right hands.

DAYS has one of the best casting directors in soaps. Flynn recalled his conversation with Marnie Saitta, who was on the hunt for the new Chad. The actor left DAYS for The Young and the Restless, where he plays the new Cane Ashby.

Saitta met an actor who looked way too much like Flynn, and acted like him, too. “So she said, ‘I met this guy, but he almost reminds me too much of you.’ And I was like, ‘Well, that sounds pretty wonderful, if I may say so myself.'”

Saitta noted the eerie similarities between the two actors. At the time, Floyd played the role of Chance Chancellor on Y&R. Interestingly enough, his character got killed off at Cane Ashby’s estate.

Flynn noted that the casting made him “emotional.” He credits Saitta with giving him his first soap opera gig. “But anyway, then he ends up with the job, and they picked up the perfect choice in my opinion,” Flynn added.

Sharing the Screen With His Soap Twin

Flynn had already started taping at Y&R. He already knew that Floyd would be taking over his role of Chad on DAYS. Flynn knew on the day that they met. He shared that their first meeting was very “meta.”

“Like, I came to the show, and now this person just died in my arms, but he’s gonna be reborn as the old me. It was pretty interesting, but we got a kick out of it! He and I laughed about it.”

Flynn joked about Floyd’s dying scene, calling it “very romantic.” However, the soap actor has one “regret”: not filming any future scenes with him. Flynn likens Floyd to “a little brother.”
