We know soaps are forever trying to attract younger demographics by featuring younger characters and daytime teen scenes are definitely nothing new. However, on “Days of Our Lives” the teens seem to have taken over the show and the necessary balance of young and mature stories has taken a backseat.
First, too many characters were SORAS’d at once to provide this brand-new teen scene. Chase and Ciara went from baseball playing buddies to a teen rapist and his victim over night.
Joey was baking cookies with Grandma Caroline in The Brady Pub kitchen and suddenly ran away from his high school boarding school.
Little Theo was enjoying 4th of July with Abby and Uncle Chad and the next thing we knew he appeared as a high school senior a few months later.
And, as far as we knew, Claire was just a little girl raised out of town by Belle and Shawn–until she arrived back in Salem a full-fledged teen with a blossoming singing career (and seemingly forgetting Ciara is her niece and Hope is her grandmother).
If that wasn’t shock enough to our system, these teens began showing up everywhere with entire episodes centered around them. Ciara (Vivian Jovnanni) is the queen of angst and seemed that way from day one–BEFORE her stepfather allegedly tried to kill her mother, her father died, and Chase (Jonathon McClendon) raped her.

Yes, we feel bad for the girl, but she’s currently involved in way too many stories. When she stepped into the Chabby saga, we wondered what happened and how she got there – continue reading on the next page–>
We understand he’s over protective due to Theo’s (Kyler Pettis) autism, but this writer has an autistic pre-teen and allows her to choose her friends. Just keep a close eye, Abe, but don’t forbid.
We don’t even understand the whirlwind Joey (James Lastovic) has been through. First, he’s somehow involved and then enamored with Ava Vitali, who was brought back for what reason? So, Joey could kill her and become the male version of angst-ridden Ciara?
Maybe? He then meets a very odd girl named Jade (Paige Searcy) with absolutely no ties to anyone else on the canvas and lo and behold he takes off with her to California to further his criminal career. Ok, sure.
And then we had…the prom. The highlight of this 1980s absolute disaster where Ciara and friends got ready to rumble was Claire’s singing. And that brings us to our next gripe. Claire (Olivia Rose Keegan) seems to be one of the few likeable teens on the show–yet she’s the only one with know storyline? What gives, DAYS?

We have nothing against the fine actors playing these kids, but they either need to find a reason to smile every once in a while or be set on the back burner till Salem’s perpetual Dark Cloud finally lifts.
