Days of our Lives Xander and Gwen: Why This Outcast Couple Will Thrive

Xander’s been spiraling since Kristen impersonated Sarah and dumped him on their wedding day. Gwen’s been scrambling, since forsaking her vendetta against Abigail and Jack. Days of our Lives is about to take a chance and pair this down-and-out twosome, and here’s why the outcast couple will thrive.

They’re Two of a Kind on Days of our Lives

Forget about opposites attracting. How about a duo who are two of a kind? Not only have Gwen (Emily O’Brien) and Xander (Paul Telfer) executed their share of horrible loathsome acts, but they’ve also endured tragic pasts. Gwen spent her childhood longing for the father she thought had abandoned her. Xander never recovered from the boyhood pain of losing his beloved mother.

The twosome has experienced decades of feeling alone and unloved, always striving to be better than second-best. As a result, they developed tough exteriors and gave in to their dark sides, mastering one conniving plot after the next.

Total Acceptance

Rather than a bad boy changing for a good girl or vice versa, Xander and Gwen could be their authentic selves together. Neither would feel pressure to change since they are basically mirror images of each other. There could be a level of true acceptance between them, something that neither of them has likely had before.

Not having the pressure to live up to someone else’s expectations would be totally freeing. It’s the ideal recipe for the perfect imperfect relationship. Their life together would be filled with mayhem, turmoil, and naughtiness, and it could serve as a powerful aphrodisiac.

Set Up for a Triangle

Of course, if Gwen and Xander were to ultimately fall in love, it would set the stage for an intriguing triangle, when and if the real Sarah (Linsey Godfrey) made her way back to Salem. Once she explained what really happened on their wedding day and how Kristen dragged her off kicking and screaming, Xander would obviously be torn.

Sarah was the first woman who fully captured his heart. She was the person who made him want to be a better respectable man. However, Gwen could stand a fighting chance in the equation; especially if Xander’s come to really like being who he is truly is and not constantly having to strive to be better. Watching it all play out would be riveting, particularly knowing how Gwen could snap if things didn’t work out in her favor. Days of our Lives (DOOL) airs weekdays on NBC.
