Days of our Lives Absolutely Shouldn’t Resurrect Xander’s Dark Side

Obviously, the temptation is there for Days of our Lives, and it’s the easiest route to take. “Sarah” dumped Xander on their wedding day, and he’s down and out financially — something he hasn’t had to deal with for a long time.

A Days of our Lives Plea For Xander

It makes him easy prey to revert back to his unscrupulous henchman past for the right price. But DAYS absolutely shouldn’t resurrect Xander’s dark side. There are a few reasons why.

Time and Transformation

There’s been way too much time and energy invested into Xander’s (Paul Telfer) transformation. While some in Salem will always see him as a thug, others have come around to a new way of thinking as he’s slowly amended his villainous ways. Maggie (Suzanne Rogers) first saw his tender gentle side, when he opened up about his mother.

Sarah (Linsey Godfrey) came to love him as he strove to be a better man for her. Xander responded to the mother-daughter duo with kindness and affection, looking out to protect them at every turn.

A True Friend

Over the past months, the soap has even given Xander a friend in Jack (Matthew Ashford). As a reformed villain himself, Jack was the perfect choice to relate to Xander; see him as a kindred spirit, who he could help.

Jack’s reached out and guided Xander, and encouraged him to stay on the straight and narrow. That burgeoning friendship can’t be wasted, and neither can Maggie and Sarah’s steadfast belief in Xander.

Leading Man

Paul Telfer also has tremendous leading man potential. Aside from the obvious – the sexy Scottish accent and Greek god physique, he’s also a fine actor. As good as he is at playing a ruthless menacing ruffian, he can also turn on the charm and be dashing and suave. Plus, he has the capacity to play tender and sweet, too. Think back to when he was wooing Sarah.

As an actor, Telfer is the complete package, so wasting him as a one-note scoundrel, who only commits heinous crimes, makes little to no sense. And with the inevitability of Sarah one day returning to town to reclaim her man, the character simply has to resist any urge to revisit his dark side. Days of our Lives (DOOL) airs weekdays on NBC.
