On Days of our Lives, Dr. Marlena Evans Black has been spending way too much time with Satan! Off-screen, her portrayer, Deidre Hall, has chosen to associate with an entity of good — Santa Claus himself! The actress bumped into jolly St. Nick at the taping of a recent annual tradition.
Deidre Hall Teams Up With Santa Claus
“I did the Hollywood Christmas parade this year,” Deidre Hall tells Soap Hub. “My son David and I went.” While there, the actress ran into the man who appeared in the parade as Santa Claus. Hall learned that during his downtime, he goes to hospitals to meet with children who are getting some help from doctors and nurses and other personnel.
Due to COVID-19 protocols and social-distancing, Santa Claus has had to alter how he interacts with hospitalized children. “But he does [visits] over [the Web],” Hall shares. “It enables him to go to a hospital and see a child, have a conversation.”
How Santa Connects With Children
Parents of hospitalized children will send a communication to St. Nick so that he has some personal knowledge of the patients he visits. “Santa can say [to a child],’ I heard you did good on your math test,'” Deidre Hall says, citing an example of the interactions. “It [gives] an added dimension to the visits.”
Hall, beloved as Marlena since her 1976 DAYS debut, shares that she’s been inspired to team up with Santa to help spread some holiday cheer to children in need. “David and I are jumping in to help him out,” the actress says. “We’re getting involved in helping Santa. Who wouldn’t want to be involved in that?”
Surprise Daytime Stars In The Parade
Deidre Hall wasn’t the only soap star to appear in the 89th Hollywood Christmas Parade. Castmate Judi Evans (Bonnie Lockhart Kiriakis; ex-Adrienne Kiriakis) also took part in the annual tradition. Other soap stars in attendance included General Hospital’s Laura Wright (Carly Corinthos), Wes Ramsey (Peter August), and Ian Buchanan (ex-Duke Lavery; ex-Ian McAllister, DAYS).
Real-life husband and wife singing team Billy Davis Jr. and Marilyn McCoo (ex-Tamara, DAYS) also appear in the parade. As DAYS fans recall, McCoo played Marlena’s (Deidre Hall) friend in the mid-1980s and until recently, viewers thought she was Lani Price Grant’s (Sal Stowers) birth mother. Viewers can see the 81st Annual Hollywood Christmas Parade on streaming platforms Hulu Live TV and on YouTube TV.
