On Days of our Lives, Allie has fled Salem, leaving her baby boy behind with a note asking Nicole and Eric to raise him. Sami is furious. Lucas is overwhelmed. Will is bummed. Claire is helping Allie flee. And throughout all this, everyone keeps referring to “the baby,” “Allie’s baby,” “Allie’s son,” and “Sami’s grandson.” Does the poor little guy not deserve a name?
Allie didn’t see fit to give him one, which does make sense: She was always planning to give him up for adoption, and she expected his forever family to name him. Does that mean Eric and Nicole will do it?
On soap operas, you can’t just name a kid whatever you’d like. (Even Theresa had to get clever with Tate, and suddenly Charlotte Bronte was Abigail’s favorite writer when it came to naming her daughter.) The name has to be deep and meaningful.
For instance, Allie is named after matriarch Alice Horton, Sami is named after Marlena’s (Deidre Hall) late sister, and Eric is named after his child-molesting uncle. (This was before the family knew he was a child molester.) Who will Allie’s son be named after?
Sami (Alison Sweeney) loathes the idea of her grandson being raised by the woman who once stole Sami’s own daughter. Will Eric (Greg Vaughan) and Nicole (Arianne Zucker) name him Sam, to see if they can calm her down a bit?
All the good Horton family names are taken. Abby (Kate Mansi) took Thomas, and Allie’s baby can’t be named after recently deceased great-grandpa Bill, since she already has a brother named Will (Chandler Massey). He can’t even be Billy, because of Aunt Billie! So why not call him Horton? It could be Tony for short. Which opens up another can of worms.
Who wants to bet that he’ll end up being named Daniel? Daniel is Holly’s father, Maggie’s dead son, and Eric’s best friend (whom Eric accidentally killed). Daniel [insert father’s last name] for the win? Days of our Lives (DOOL) airs weekdays on NBC. Check your local listings for airtimes.
