Salem’s Xander is no stranger to adversity on Days of our Lives, and that problematic past may help his portrayer in a new role.

New Role For Paul Telfer

The actor announced on Twitter that he was cast alongside such notable actors as John Malkovich (The New Pope), Brian Cox (Succession), Thomas Brodie-Sangster (The Queen’s Gambit) and Harry Hamlin (L.A. Law) in Unsinkable, described as “an audio movie event.”

“Very, very excited to be joining THIS CAST!” Telfer wrote, linking a story that Deadline wrote about the casting announcement.

The audio event will pay tribute to the 80th anniversary of one of World War II’s most extraordinary maritime events when the cargo ship San Demetrio was severely damaged in battle before being abandoned by its crewmembers. Remarkably, the ship was later recovered.

Screenwriter John Mawson is adapting his screenplay about the San Demetrio into this audio movie, which is being produced by Datura Studios and North Atlantic Ridge in association with B7 Media and AudioMarvels. The story follows the epic journey of the ship that would not die.

The new commitment shouldn’t impact Telfer’s DAYS schedule, so expect Xander and Sarah  (Linsey Godfrey) to continue on their mission of learning the truth about Philip’s (Jay Kenneth Johnson) mystery partner-in-crime.

With COVID-19 still causing numerous filming and production problems, the audio movie is the perfect way to get the talented cast working to commemorate this event without having to put people in danger.

Malkovich told Deadline that the script will show what those on the ship went through, describing it as the “most unimaginably horrific circumstances and they just keep going.” The actor also expressed his love for the experience of doing audio movies.

Unsinkable will embrace the production style and values of a blockbuster cinematic feature film, creating an immersive blockbuster audio experience through sound. Days of our Lives (DOOL) airs weekdays on NBC. Check your local listings for airtimes.
