After nearly four decades as a part of Salem, Kristian Alfonso is exiting the role of Hope Williams Brady, a role she assumed in 1983.
The actress confirmed her departure to in a statement she posted on Instagram, saying the following: “Days of Our Lives has been a part of both my personal and professional journey. I am forever grateful to NBC and the late Betty Corday, who took a chance on me many years ago and changed my life…I feel blessed and honored to have been invited into people’s homes for over three decades. However, it is now time for me to write my next chapter.
“I will not be returning to Days when it resumes production in September,” she added. “I’ve already filmed my last episode several months ago.”
In February, we learned Galen Gering also taped his last episodes. Gering’s Rafe was married to Hope for a short time and the two seem to be getting closer of late. Does that mean they will be written off together?
Alfonso rose to daytime fame when she debuted as Hope in 1983 and was paired with Peter Reckell’s Bo, who died in Hope’s arms in 2015.
Production for DAYS and all Hollywood movies and television shows halted in March due to the coronavirus pandemic and on Friday, the soap announced it would return to production on September 1. It will be the last of the soaps to return to set, as DAYS has episodes that can stretch them through October.
DOOL made its debut in 1965 and is one of the longest-running daytime soap operas in American history. It has outlasted other soaps to become a mainstay for many households. Needless to say, five decades of storylines have kept viewers locked in and wanting more.
From Stefano DiMera’s (Joseph Mascolo) evil schemes to Victor Kiriakis’s (John Aniston) one-liners to the epic love story of Bo (Peter Reckell) and Hope (Kristian Alfonso), DAYS knows how to entertain and keep fans coming back for more with newer pairs like Lani and Eli. Sadly, times are shifting and daytime soap operas are shrinking.
It is one of only four remaining soap operas currently on the air. The other three daytime dramas include General Hospital (GH), The Young and the Restless (YR), and The Bold and the Beautiful (BB). DAYS airs weekdays on NBC. Check your local listings for air times.
