On February 13th Galen Gering celebrated his birthday. The day was more than the start of a new year — it was also the last day he was spending at Days of Our Lives, at least for now.

The actor took to Instagram to both thank his followers for their birthday wishes, but also to confirm the reports that he is indeed exiting the NBC serial.
“Thank you all so much for the incredible birthday wishes,” Gering posted. “I’ve always seen birthdays as a day of reflection, an opportunity to look back at where I’ve been and where I’m going. So, it’s oddly befitting that today also happens to be my last day at Days.
“Man…I have such great memories from the last 10 years. Onscreen I’ve fought for marriages and fought evil twins. I’ve put people in prison and been imprisoned. And offscreen, I’ve made friendships that I will have for a lifetime. All the while, I’ve been so fortunate to have the love and support of the greatest fans in the world. I hope you know how thankful I am to have had you at my side.

The good news is that due to DAYS’ advance taping schedule (despite a reported nine-week hiatus, the show won’t lose much of its lead time) Gering will likely continue to appear on the show through some time in September.
No word on how Rafe will exit the canvas, but as you can see in the Instagram post below DAYS fan favorite Alison Sweeney (Sami) is seen with Gering. She’s revealed on social media that she’s coming back to DAYS. Could Sami’s return be tied to Rafe’s departure? Stay tuned to find out! Days of Our Lives airs weekdays on NBC.
