There’s some bad news and there’s also some GREAT news related to Camila Banus’ future with Days of Our Lives. Gabi is going to leave the canvas for a little bit, but then, she’s going to be coming back soon after she bids adieu to Salem.
Banus is returning to shoot new episodes when the NBC serial resumes production next month following a hiatus due to the coronavirus. “Gabi’s departure will therefore be brief and she will return later this fall to continue to stir up more trouble in Salem,” reports TV Insider.
Banus first made the soap scene in 2008 when she was cast as One Life to Live’s Lola. She stayed in Llanview for less than a year. The following year, she joined DAYS and has taken viewers on Gabi’s winding journey. She started out as Rafe’s (Galen Gering) kid sister and has grown into a formidable force, a woman capable of doing everything and anything in order to get what she wants!
Camila Banus took a break for Salem once over the last ten years, but she returned in late 2015 in time for the show’s 50th anniversary. In 2013, Gabi gave birth to legacy character, Arianna Horton, who was conceived when her father, Will (Chandler Massey), was grappling with his sexual orientation and attempted to fit into societal norms by having sex with Gabi. Over the years, Gabi has had Melanie (Molly Burnett) kidnapped and she also shot and killed Nick Fallon (Blake Berris). Gabi went to prison for killing Nick.
Her more recent antics include using an app to take control of Julie’s (Susan Seaforth Hayes) pacemaker and trying to give Jake (Brandon Barash), the twin of her late, beloved Stefan O. DiMera, a mini-makeover so she could close a deal. The actress scored a Daytime Emmy nomination for Outstanding Younger Actress in a Drama in 2015. Days of Our Lives airs weekdays on NBC.
