Days of our Lives Mask Madness: It’s Time to Stop the Insanity

Days of our Lives Mask Madness
 Comments

The first time Kristen donned a mask and impersonated Nicole on Days of our Lives, it was fun, fresh, and a storyline shocker. Viewers were willing to suspend disbelief for the sake of entertainment.

Days of our Lives — Perfect “Sense”

It made “sense” that wacky Kristen (Stacy Haiduk) would orchestrate something so wild and out-there to worm her way into the bed of the man she loves — namely, poor unsuspecting Brady (Eric Martsolf). It also facilitated a reconciliation between the couple, a beautiful baby daughter, and months of front-burner plot action.

The reason it worked so well the first time is that no one expected the move, nor saw it coming. It had shock value, and that totally sold it to the audience.

Let’s Do It, Again

However, now the soap’s mask madness has become an overused plot device; a tried and true go-to. It’s time to stop the insanity and put the convoluted twist to rest.

Having Kristen impersonate Sarah (Linsey Godfrey) was a bust from the get-go. There were too many discrepancies between the two actresses – age, body type, tattoos… There’s no way both Xander (Paul Telfer) and Rex (Kyle Lowder) would have fallen for the switch since they’d both been intimate with Sarah. The move also infuriated fans, who would have preferred a gentler Xander/Sarah breakup.

… And Again

No sooner did Kristen pack up her Sarah mask than she was at it again with a Kate (Lauren Koslow) one. Where does she get these exact replicas of the leading ladies of Salem at a moment’s notice? Kristen had no idea Kate was going to figure out she was impersonating Susan. Are fans expected to believe that Kristen carries a bag of masks with her in preparation for an impromptu impersonation emergency?

There’s suspending disbelief, and then there’s expecting too much from an audience. At this point, viewers have to be feeling bamboozled and played. It’s time for another plot twist. Days of our Lives (DOOL) airs weekdays on NBC. Check your local listings for airtimes.
