Days Of Our Lives Lawsuit Vs. Sony Pictures Television Takes Surprising Turn

On Days of Our Lives, Mickey Horton argued many trials, however, the show became embroiled in a real-life lawsuit when it took its studio partner, Sony Pictures Television, to court earlier this year!

As previously, reported, DAYS brought a suit against Sony for, among other things, not promoting the show internationally. Now, it appears that the case may be closed soon. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Sony has shot down many of Corday Productions’ claims, which include breach of fiduciary duty.

The suit made headlines last February after DAYS became concerned that Sony, which distributes the show internationally, wasn’t doing enough to get the program shown in foreign markets. The legal papers also alleged that Sony was favoring The Young and the Restless, which is described as Sony’s “wholly-owned daytime drama.”

Gary Feess, a retired federal judge, who is overseeing the matter felt Sony was in the right as the studio and Corday Productions share a commercial relationship, not a fiduciary one.

Sony didn’t emerge as the only winner with these recent decisions. The judge found that Sony may have breached its obligation to sell DAYS overseas and share the fees related to marketing the show.

So what does this mean? It means that Sony and Corday Productions may not be spending the new few years tied up in court together. This could lead to a positive outcome for the show’s upcoming renewal next year. Days of Our Lives airs weekdays on NBC. Check local listings for air times.
