Days of our Lives fans have surely missed seeing Kristian Alfonso on the show since Hope left Salem last fall, but thankfully, they won’t have to wait too much longer to see the actress in her next project.
The actress appeared on NBC New York, to talk with Sara Gore about her new Lifetime movies—the final two installments of a four-part series based on the books by V.C. Andrews.
The first film, Ruby, premiered March 20, with Pearl in the Mist slated for March 21 and starring The Young and the Restless’s Lauralee Bell (Christine Blair Williams). Alfonso’s two movies, All That Glitters and Hidden Jewel, will air March 27 March 28, respectively.
“It was so well written—both films I am in,” the actress said during the interview. “It’s such a dance and this character is such a dance and such a complete departure from anything I have ever played before.”
Alfonso revealed that this was the first job she booked after leaving Days of our Lives.
“I was cleaning out my dressing room and loading things in the trunk of my car when I heard a ding, and I had my phone in my back pocket,” Alfonso recounts. And on the other side of that ding was a message informing her she had landed the role.
“I really love being part of the Lifetime family,” she said. “It’s been an amazing experience.”
In the films, Alfonso plays Gladys, the mother of Paul who shares a big secret with the movie’s heroine, and childhood love, Ruby. The movies offer plenty of drama and intrigue, something she is well versed in from her decades on DAYS.
Having played Hope for so long, Alfonso felt a little gun-shy about taking on the new project, though she was plenty excited to do so.
“It’s always like the first day of school for me,” Alfonso said. “I was a nervous wreck. Everyone made me feel so welcome, and after I got through that first take…I was like [mimicking the sign of the cross] ‘thank you Lord, thank you from the heavens.’”
Speaking of DAYS, Alfonso noted she had been thinking about hanging up her “Hope Hat” for the past four years, but she made a promise to Ken Corday that she would stay, as he wanted them both to be there until the end.
But when he called her last year to tell her the plan was to write her off the canvas for four months, Alfonso filled up with tears, which she described as “relief tears,” explaining Corday opened the door for her to leave, and she was ready to “walk through it.”
Soap Hub looks forward to seeing Kristian Alfonso in her upcoming projects but holding out hope, that we haven’t seen the last of her in Salem. Days of our Lives (DOOL) airs weekdays on NBC. Check your local listings for airtimes.
