This year, the Daytime Emmys are going to be very different. Due to social-distancing concerns, people won’t be coming together in person. Looking to the future, Days of our Lives star Linsey Godfrey (Sarah) would like to see a change happen to the big night when it becomes an in-person event once more.
After the awards are over, traditionally the competing soaps go off to celebrate — but not really with each other. “I don’t get why all the soaps don’t get together and have [one] big party,” Godfrey tells Soaps Hub. “Except for CBS Daytime, they don’t.”
In years past, the Daytime Emmys have had sit-down dinners in banquet rooms before adjourning to a nearby locale to attend the awards ceremony. For many years, the show has been held at the Pasadena Convention Center. Having the awards in an auditorium allows for more people to attend, but having banquet tables makes it easier for nominees, presenters, and other attendees to remain together as one big group after the awards have been handed out.
One thing Linsey Godfrey enjoys about the Daytime Emmys is seeing pals from other shows as well as DAYS head writer Ron Carlivati, who usually travels from New York to Los Angeles to attend the ceremony.
“Isn’t he wonderful?” Godfrey asks rhetorically of the show’s top scribe. “There’s always one [special] little nugget in each script that’s a great line. There’s always a lot [of great lines], but there’s usually one I especially remember. I just love Ron.”
While Godfrey enjoys spending time at home, she shares that she’s innately a “hugger,” so keeping her distance from folks has been challenging. “Kimberly [Matula, ex-Hope, The Bold and the Beautiful] came by and dropped something off for me,” Godfrey shares. “I’m on my stoop and she’s in my driveway and we’re yelling out to each other. It’s so weird not to be able to give someone a hug!”
The 47th Annual Daytime Emmys air on Friday, June 26 at 8 p.m. ET on CBS. Days of our Lives (DOOL) airs weekdays on NBC. Check your local listings for airtimes.
