The time jump on Days of our Lives has wreaked plenty of havoc with timelines in the minds of the show’s fans as it is, but a mistake this past week in Australia must have really thrown viewers for a loop when the wrong episode ended up airing. Thanks to the Internet, we know all about it.
Spoilers are the bane of soap writers and network execs, but obviously fans can’t get enough of them and this latest blunder has provided ample fodder for the soap message board site Daytime Royalty, which was also shared by the Jason47 DAYS Website.
This all happened on Monday, with an episode of DAYS for the following Monday being inadvertently shown down under. This hasn’t really happened before for the soap community, though there was once a “lost” tape that caused dearly departed Search For Tomorrow to have to perform the episode live.
While many viewers may be anxious to see what this episode was about, things seem to be confusing enough in Salem that watching the episodes out of order may not help matters. The unique way that writer Ron Carlivati is spinning this particular tale for the audience would probably do better seen in order.
After all, the year jump has provided plenty of spoilers in its own way, with there being many unanswered questions that we have to see slowly untangled as each new episode provides additional clues to why things are so crazy right now in Salem. Finding out how certain characters have died, why others are in jail, and couples either split apart or thrown together can be exhausting — but oh-so-fun.
It’s a shame the show had to go through this mishap and while it’s not the end of the world to know what’s going to happen next week (certainly with all the spoilers out there — surprises are hard to come by with only a mere week sneak peek), sometimes it’s worth it to wait. Days of our Lives (DOOL) airs weekdays on NBC. Check your local listings for airtimes.
