Heroines don’t come more imperiled than the ones featured on Days of our Lives. Hardly a week goes by without one or more of the soap’s ladyfolk falling victim to a serial predator (be they blackmailer, rapist, or serial killer), running afoul of a jealous sibling or suspicious spouse, or meeting with some such tragic accident.
Of the many indignities dished out by the Days of our Lives writing team, scaring a damsel’s beautiful face, seems to be a favorite.
Julie Olson Williams
Elizabeth Harrower, the mother of actress Susan Seaforth Hayes, was the authoress of this particular DAYS storyline, which saw Julie sustain a serious facial burn courtesy of an exploding oven.
Remembers Seaforth Hayes, “She had based it on the story of someone in our own lives. I was surprised that she brought that up, but she was driving to drive Doug [Bill Hayes] and Julie apart at moment. They were happily married and she didn’t go for that…Originally we thought [the arch] was going to be three weeks and it went on for six months or something like that.”
Eve Donovan
Eve’s face was brutally scarred on two occasions. First, a client foisted upon her by pimp Nick Corelli slashed her cheek with a pocketknife. Later, she survived an attack launched by The Riverfront Knifer but received another severe wound to her cheek. Like Julie before her, Eve underwent reconstructive surgery to rid herself of the blemishes.
Carrie Brady Reed
The acid that was thrown at Carrie (Christie Clark) was actually meant for her lover, Austin Reed (Patrick Muldoon), who’d failed to acquiesce to a mobster’s demand that he throw a boxing match. Despite the resulting disfigurement, Carrie was crowned The Face of The 90s a beauty contest sponsored by Bella Magazine. Though the first skin graft was a failure, a further two reversed the damage wrought by the corrosive liquid.
Chloe Lane
A car accident damaged Choe’s (Nadia Bjorlin) face, and a botched attempt to restore her natural beauty resulted in the songstress faking her death and going into seclusion. When word of an experimental treatment reached Chloe, she revealed herself to friends and loved ones and went under the knife yet again…but not before accepting Brady Black’s (Eric Martsolf) marriage proposal. On their wedding day, the fruits of Chloe’s surgeon’s labor were revealed to the world.
