The show wisely took things slowly as Ben and Ciara got to know each other and begain to trust each other.
What they ended up with was a couple with a huge rooting value — the two of them against the world. And make no mistake — that’s exactly how it is for them because no one supports this union (except Claire, for her own selfish reasons).
So that little rebellious streak of Ciara’s will have to bloom ever larger to give her the strength to shun the world if she is to pursue a relationship with the town pariah.
She sees in him what no one else can — his yearning to be a better man while he sees her as the amazing woman she’s becoming.
It touches something in viewers’ hearts — that classic good girl’s love can reform a bad boy — something we fell in love with in her parents and Ciara’s carrying her parents’ torch as only she could.
Even if it continues to go slow, it’s a relief to know that their love story is in such capable hands.
