He’s mostly known for his many Hallmark films, but Days of our Lives fans recall Trevor Donovan from his 100-plus-episode run as Jeremy Horton, Mike and Robin’s son, in 2007.
Donovan’s also known to his social media followers for his devotion to his beloved dogs, one of whom passed away in 2019. “Two years ago today you crossed the rainbow bridge at the young age of 9,” Donovan posted on Instagram, referring to his late German Shepherd, Dogbert. His words accompanied a very moving video, which you can see below.
“It still hurts and feels unfair,” the actor adds. “We took all that grief and turned it into a campaign for DM awareness. The more people we inform about DEGENERATIVE MYELOPATHY the closer we come to eliminating this preventable disease.”
In time, Donovan opened up his heart and home to other dogs including Chance, a Labrador Retriever. “Shadow [another dog] wears your leash with ur name tag… and every time he runs the clanging noise reminds us of you,” he says. “Run free and play Dogbert, you will never be forgotten. xoxo Love Always, the CK9 pack.”
Earlier this month, in another post, Donovan explained how his love of “man’s best friend” was instilled in him during childhood. “When I was a kid the neighbors had a dog who lived outside… all year long, even in the winters,” Donovan recalled. “I used to jump the fence and give him the only attention and affection he ever received. He smelled pretty bad, but I knew it wasn’t his fault, and I would sneak him some food as often as I could.
“I never really understood his horrible treatment, and I’m sure he didn’t either,” the dog advocate laments. “When he crossed the rainbow bridge I was a teenager, and the only one who cried for him and missed him. Please remember this story, and remind friends and family who are thinking about getting a dog. When you get a dog it is a lifelong commitment to care for and love that animal.”
Alas, Jeremy’s appearances these days are restricted to occasional appearances of his holiday ornament hanging on the Horton family tree in December. Donovan can be seen in the upcoming projects Renovate My Heart, Reagan, and Wolf Hound. Check out his posts below. Days of our Lives (DOOL) airs weekdays on NBC.
