Days of our Lives Alum John de Lancie To Reprise Star Trek Character

Days of our Lives’ loss, was certainly a sci-fi fan’s gain. And now, actor John de Lancie has revealed that he’s returning to the Star Trek Universe by way of spinoff series Picard.

DAYS Star John de Lancie Returning To Star Trek

The announcement was first made during Monday’s special Star Trek “First Contact Day” series of events, and Lancie confirmed the news himself after “crashing” the Will Wheaton-hosted Picard virtual panel.

Lancie originated the part of the omnipotent, shape-shifting trickster god known as Q in the pilot episode of Star Trek: The Next Generation. He subsequently made seven more appearances on that program, before reprising the character in other Star Trek franchise series including Voyager (which was led by former Ryan’s Hope star Kate Mulgrew) and Deep Space Nine.

In addition to his work on the various Star Trek series, de Lancie is also known for appearing in the likes of Andromeda, Stargate SG-1, Charmed, Breaking Bad, and Torchwood: Miracle Day.

However, for fans of NBC’s lone daytime soap, he’ll always be Eugene Bradford. Eugene was first introduced in 1982 as a red herring suspect in the Salem Strangler case.

After his name was cleared, Eugene became involved in a popular romance with Trista Evans (played by future Scream Queen and soap hopper Barbara Crampton) – though she was claimed by yet another serial killer: The Salem Slasher.

Eventually, Eugene settled into wacky wedded bliss with the equally eccentric Calliope Jones (Arleen Sorkin). For a time, the couple was separated by Eugene’s successful, though accidental, entrance into a future timeline – and then they had to deal with interference from Men In Black as well as a Calliope replicant!

Since 1990, Eugene and his missus have resided in New York City. But a little piece of the man remains in Salem via Marlena’s firstborn daughter: Samantha Gene Brady; Samantha in remembrance of her sister, and Gene in honor of her favorite patient turned friend. Days of our Lives (DOOL) airs weekdays on NBC. Check your local listings for airtimes.
