Yesterday was a big blow to long-time fans of Days of our Lives as Kristian Alfonso appeared for the last time as Hope Williams Brady in Salem.
Farewell To Kristian Alfonso
The actress has spent the better part of her life on the show, first appearing as a high school-aged student in 1983, and aside from a few short periods of time off the show, she’s been an integral part of the soap’s canvas.
She was there when Alison Sweeney (Sami) first appeared on the show and over the years, the two would go on to become great friends.
Sweeney took to her Instagram account yesterday, noting that Kristian Alfonso leaving was just as sad to her as it was to fans.
The actress posted a montage of photos of the two of them together, along with some other co-stars such as Melissa Reeves (Jennifer), Deidre Hall (Marlena), and the legendary, late Frances Reid (Alice Horton).
“Today is my dear friend [Kristian Alfonso’s] last air show as Hope on [Days],” Sweeney wrote. “Words cannot express how grateful I am to have her as my friend. Kristian is such a talented and dedicated artist, a hard worker, a motivator, a listener, and a chocolate connoisseur. She’s a wonderful mom and a caring friend. I can’t wait to see what this incredible woman does next!!”
Of course, Alison Sweeney has been through many sad exits of co-stars through the years, including her own departure in 2014, when she left after 21 years to explore other opportunities and be home more for her children.
But that didn’t mean it was the end of Sami appearing in Salem, and she came back for visits and short turns numerous times through the years and is scheduled to be back full-time soon.
And while Alfonso has given no indication that she is willing to return in a similar fashion, this is the soap biz, and actors often have changes of heart once any ill feelings of breaking up dissolve. So, perhaps we’ll be seeing Hope Brady back in Salem sometime in the future. Regardless, her legacy will live on and fans will always have a special place in their heart for her.
