Days of our Lives stars Cady McClain and George DelHoyo didn’t interact in Salem however, they are both nominated in the Outstanding Guest Performer in a Drama Series category at tonight’s Daytime Emmys.
While McClain was brand new to DAYS last year when she stepped in as Jennifer Horton, subbing for Melissa Reeves, DelHoyo first appeared on DAYS back in 1987 as Orpheus, the man who kidnapped Marlena (Deidre Hall).
Soap Hub chatted with the two performers when they shot segments that will appear on tonight’s Daytime Emmys.
Soap Hub: How did it feel when they called you back to the show after 30 years?
George DelHoyo: My manager asked me if I was sitting down before she told me. I was kind of stunned. I asked are you serious? Are you putting me on? I said, “Wow, but Orpheus is dead.” She said they have narrative ways of making that work. I said I’d love to revisit a character I did so long ago. I’d done that before but with stage roles and after a few years — never 30 years apart. You’ve lived so much [in between], you bring so much more to the role.
What’s on your reel?
DelHoyo: Orpheus has captured little Henry and he wants his son [Christian, Brock Kelly] to be let out of a psych ward. He wants Marlena [Deidre Hall] to get him out. There are scenes with John [Drake Hogestyn], who wants to know where his wife is. Also, Justin [Wally Kurth] has a gun and he wants to shoot me because of Adrienne’s [Judi Evans] death.
Cady McClain: My reel has the scenes where there’s a big party celebrating Jack [Matthew Ashford] and Jennifer’s relationship and her no longer being in a coma. Then, it’s revealed that Jack slept with Kate [Lauren Koslow] while Jennifer was in her coma. There’s the reveal, and then a fight in which Jennifer lays into Jack. I believe I used two back-to-back episodes.
Are you aware of the nickname fans had for you while you were on DAYS?
McClain: No. What was it?
“Dixie Deveraux”
McClain: Ah! I didn’t see that. That’s funny!
Any chance we’ll see you back as Jennifer or another role on DAYS?
McClain: I always love to work. I love DAYS. It’s a great show. I love working in Daytime. It’s a fun medium. Anything is possible. I loved working with Matthew. He was so kind and super helpful; he’s a really lovely human being. I felt blessed to have had him as a scene partner.
